Void of a Hero in our motherland..Actually, there is a void of such a hero and a patriot like the previous leaders and kings who treated our country more precious than their souls. The only historic landmark which could be eulogized is putting an end to the 30 year old devastating war. The heroic image of Mr.Mahinda Rajapaksha has been distorted by his autocratic decisions. Also he has been allegedly cultivating corruption and supporting the drug permeating criminals so that he was no longer a hero for people. It is pitiable to realize that the leaders who have risked their lives sych as Mr.E.W.Perera,Mr. Anagarika Dharmapala and the leaders who conducted the 1818 and 1848 rebellions are no longer originated in our motherland.People have become insensitive and selfish due to the current lifestylesand it seems like the void of a hero will remain for a long time.

In the subject of naming or finding Sri Lankan heroes at the present day is difficult. All the heroes we know are from the past. Starting from the heroes I know such as Puran Appu to Ponambalam Ramanadan. All these heroes had common a ground. To be a hero one has to be selfless. That is the key word. One can not have other motives behind the thinking or the action of that person or the out come of those actions or thinking,if we are to consider him/her as a true hero. Then the question is do we have people of that nature in the present day. I would say very rare. But there are few who fall in to that category. out of all for me the modern day hero was Gangodawila Soma Hamuduruwo. Ven.Soma gave people a new vision for a life how to be a good human. How to be you.
