Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that many diplomats had privately told the government that they were convinced of the success of the post war reconciliation process in Sri Lanka, but owing to a variety of reasons some of their countries had decided to back the US-sponsored resolution.

During an interactive session with media heads and editors, he said that the government had rehabilitated over 11,000 LTTE ex-combatants, and released 4000 others.

He said that, along with economic and infrastructure development projects in the north and the east, Sri Lanka’s reconciliation process stood out as the best in modern history.

Speaking about the need to maintain a healthy level of vigilance, Mr. Rajapaksa said that some LTTE 400 cadres were still at large.
Commenting on the controversy surrounding LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s death, he said that intercepted radio messages had proved that Prabhakaran had refused to surrender in January, 2009.

“Prabhakaran rejected a proposal by his chief arms procurer Kumaran Pathmanathan, alias KP, to surrender as the LTTE was losing the battle. Prabhakaran died in a gun battle. He was not taken alive,” Mr. Rajapaksa said, denying allegations that Prabhakaran had been killed after he surrendered to the Army.

The fellow climbed down from the kithul palm also had some excuses. Anyway what we are facing today is due to pure lack of dimlomacy and arrogance. Defeating LTTE is not defeating a super power, any past govt could have done it though they didnt do it for many reasons. Thats the only thing that MR did well, we thank MR, GOTA & SF for that. Post war administration is a big ZERO. Simply this regime cant run a tea boutique.

Terrorism has defeated from the day Karuna was brought by the Asad to Colombo. Prabaharan did all possible things to wipe out his terror network no matter who executed the tasks whether it is from MR or SF anyone could have done it.

The Tamils living out of SL has done nothing to the Tamils living in SL. You guys enjoy all the privilege from your adopted countries and not bothered to spend a single penny for the tamils living in SL. lend them your hand without talking and making every ones life difficult. they need your help.

matcharn Gota, You know me and I know you. Everybody know that killing their own defenceless people is wrong. The West helped us with arms and banning and aresting LTTE supporters in their countries and helped us to win the war.
No point blaming them now. Impliment LLRC Recomendations and start the reconsilliation process. Don't delay. Thanks Gota.
