The UNP members who extended support for the 18th amendment to the constitution will be roped into the government and offered SLFP membership, Prime Minister D.M Jayaratna told Daily Mirror online.

The Premier said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will meet the rebel 16 UNP Parliamentarians to make the offer for their consideration in the event they are removed from the UNP.

The UNP has already said that disciplinary action will be taken against any UNP member who votes with the government at today’s debate on the constitutional reforms, and will also not hesitate to remove them from the party.

Prime Minister Jayaratna however says SLFP membership will be offered to these UNP members if they are willing to accept it even if they are not removed from the party as threatened by the UNP leadership.

Among the UNP members who have decided to vote with the government for the constitutional reforms today include Lakshman Seniviratna, Earl Gunasekera, Manusha Nanayakara and Upeksha Swarnamali. (Daily Mirror online)

Possibly she wanted to bag the 'megastar' awards. All of them are mere actors and we fools are the victims!

Ultimately SLFP will be maned by rebel cross overs
from UNp. SLFPers who toiled and shed sweat for the party will
be thrown to the back yard. Alas what next ?

This shows our politicains have no back bone. What a shame. Wasi Pathata Hooiyah..

Is it only now that you realized that we are fools and victims.

To both Tonto and Kris, All your comments are valid but both of you have forgotten that Sri Lankans voted to retain this style of governance. If they are not willing to come out and protest and prefer to keep quiet, then most of these arguments are useless.

Who started all this? It was Ranil who took 13 from the chandrika’s government and set a bad example.

Govt succeeded in destroying the opposition. This is what they have been doing for sometime. If you take the vote base they have just below 40% but since the opposition is destroyed they get a good majority. Any new comer will face same consistences like what happened to Runil, SF etc.

    Tonto Wednesday, 08 September 2010 10:30 AM

I wish to recall a statement that Sarath Amunugama made one week before he parachuted to the SLFP, He said that he his dog would not be allowed to cross over. The rest is history. Laxsman Seneviratne shouted him self hoarse during the presidential elections, so he has also proved to be worse than a dog. The actress has crossed due to sheer fright from the likes of Merv the Perv. Poor thing.

    Ravana Wednesday, 08 September 2010 10:20 AM

Then does the JVP leader become leader of the opposition ? Ranil consigned to the dustbin at last !
