Lasith Malinga has been warned by Sri Lanka Cricket to maintain better relations with the media following his spat with journalists.

The SLC, CEO Ajith Jayasekera in a report had recommended Malinga to be censured and advised on his behaviour when dealing with the press in future, a SLC release said. The SLC executive committee has appointed a 3-member committee to advise Malinga on his behaviour.

The slinger Malinga was rough with the media last Monday at the cricket headquarters when he arrived to resolve the contract signing row involving national cricketers. Malinga's behaviour was condemned by the local media with public opinion mounting on the SLC to discipline him.(NDTV)

Ashraff Nazim Sunday, 10 March 2013 06:58 AM

Media should properly face Malinga's bowls.

    Dude Sunday, 10 March 2013 08:12 AM

"PLEASE" that's enough about his stupid actions
Lets get on with the game (with or without him).

Calistus Jayatilleke Sunday, 10 March 2013 08:12 AM

Looks like the theory of "Boys will be boys" does not apply in this case.

    Devin Sunday, 10 March 2013 09:20 AM

For his part Lasith was pretty rough; the mediamen asking the questions were very polite, as far as I could hear. He needs to learn to control - just as he does in the cricket-field.

Malinga has all the rights to not to answer to media men as he is not allowed to do so under the requirements of SL Cricket contracts. Instead of avoiding them he overreacted, that is all. He did not insult, or assault the media men like some of our politicians repeatedly did. Therefore it is unfair to make a big fuss about this incident.

I agree with your fist part. Having said that, what actually he did wrong? He had been pissed off with the management like all others. Sanga said the same thing in a diplomatic way which Malinga lacks. Besides today, with a management like this and rulers like this you cannot expect more Mahelas and Sangas in future. Malinga's on field behaviour is awesome.

Money has gotten to his head. He has forgotten so soon the days he was playing soft ball cricket and climbing coconut trees in his village. How come SLC has placed him in category 1 a player not available for test cricket.

    len Sunday, 10 March 2013 10:49 AM

Malingas's behavior at this stage of his life is nothing to do with his upbringing its more to do with him acting like a spoil brat in tune with so many of the modern youth in the society who are use to getting what they want at any cost.

BORU EPPA Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:52 AM

Jena, you are very correct,Whois to discipline our press?some of the great cricketers around the world behave terribly on field but because the words uttered in English it does not have the same effect, after all he is a human being and he too can express himself and there was nothing very serious he said.

Ranjith Silva Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:28 AM

This boy need training before appointing as a leader/vice captain since, the Money is not the factor of a Role model. Can any boy follow this character? He needs help.

Better open the mouth only to eat if one don't know to talk to the media.

    sorry.com Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:15 AM

Why worry. We have great examples of people on the top who can be taken as examples for the young when facing the press. Why can't Malinga follow Mr. Mervin Silva. Hasn't Mervin taught us how we can handle the media in a decent way.

    Nodrog Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:14 AM

Considering his humble background and lack of good upbringing from not being born to an affluent society we should not expect too much from Malinga. He is what he is. We should be proud of his status today and the fame he has brought us through his talent.

    jena Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:12 AM

I am not sure, what he has done wrong.. he is after all a professional and his on-field behavior is exceptional

    confused Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:11 AM

Malinga should take our great Dr. Mervin Silva as an example when dealing with the media.

    Ranjitdea Sunday, 10 March 2013 04:07 AM

There was nothing so serious about his behavior, one has to understand the circumstances under which it took place and Malinga's frame of mind at that time.

    Chandi Sunday, 10 March 2013 03:58 AM

    Who cares?.

    weha Sunday, 10 March 2013 03:48 AM

When you open your mouth you just show your roots. somethings cannot be bought with money.

    Guest Sunday, 10 March 2013 03:41 AM

Malinga should not be misled by habitat that the politicians handle media in privilege issues.

    Ajith Sunday, 10 March 2013 03:39 AM

If only politicians were also disciplined like this!!

    reviewcric Sunday, 10 March 2013 03:23 AM
