A group of Sri Lankan Tamils who were rescued by Nagapattinam fishermen while they were stranded mid-sea, on Thursday staged a hunger strike at the Mandapam transit camp in Tamil Nadu, urging the government to release them at the earliest.

Around 65 Lankan Tamils, including three women and a child, had engaged a boat last month to take them to Australia from Sri Lanka. However, the agent left them stranded mid-sea, near Nagapattinam. Fishermen rescued them and later handed them over to police. After a brief inquiry, they were sent to the Mandapam transit camp on September 15. (Source: Indian Express)

They were all illicit migrants to Australia. Thank God to be saved by the fishermen from drowning in the ocean. Staging a hunger strike is not the way. Sri Lankan govt. must charge these migrants on arrival on Lankan soil. These illicit migrants are disgrace to the country.

Mr.Wara, Make a trip to India and see for yourself before making your statements. Under whatever circumstances, they are feeding our stranded migrants, thanks to them. It is good for one to starve , and feed another in distress.

Why do Tamils leave their homeland Tamil Nadu in their thousands? The answer is Tamil Nadu treats poor low castes worse than animals. The rich Tamils leave Sri Lanka because they are not allowed by law to treat the poor low castes like animals. But Lanka gets blamed for everything all the time.

SL is becoming a sickening place, and is definitely no better than TN (which is ridden with its own problems like caste discrimination and corruption)

lowlut....SL is still a better place to live than stinking Tamil nadu. Trust me, I've lived there. If you feel TN is better then by all means feel free to go.
