Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday charged that the ‘cooked up’ story of Pakistan- aided nuclear plants in Sri Lanka was part of a major conspiracy to put the lives of Sri Lankan nuclear scientists in danger.

“This story fabricated by a group comprising Indians and Sri Lankans and an Indian media group, had twin purposes. One was to blacklist Sri Lanka internationally by creating a major suspicion on the country’s power plans. The other was to put the lives of Sri Lankan nuclear scientists in danger and get them annihilated as in the case of Iran to prevent any advancement of nuclear technology in Sri Lanka” the minister alleged.

Calling the media report on a possible Pakistan-sponsored nuclear plant in Sampur  ‘a blatant lie’ the minister said as India’s vote against Sri Lanka in Geneva failed to garner expected support except in Tamil Nadu, anti- Sri Lankan elements hatched this plot to mobilize other Indian states also against Sri Lanka to  create an anti- Sri Lankan din, internationally.

“Across the globe nuclear scientists are being targeted and killed. Sri Lanka has absolutely no plans to operate nuclear plants in the immediate future – not for the next fifteen twenty years. What we are doing right now is introducing nuclear science to various fields in order to create awareness on the subject’ Minister Ranawaka emphasized. (Duminda Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Hon.Minister, please stop boasting for nothing. You and Minister Wimal Weerawansa cannot make a statement without the word conspiracy. Please keep in mind the way you critisize western countries especially USA and our neighbor India, you put the lives of sri Lnkan in danger. Therefore it is high time to turn the flash light at you. Please stop involving with unnecessary things and try to resolve the problems you have in your own ministry. Ever since you took the ministry, you could not even honour a single thing what you said and you are now saying it is a blatant lie. If that is the case, you are a damn liar too.

Big Ears Monday, 15 October 2012 05:06 AM

Agree, Sri Lanka higher education is not geared for any thing constructive. No research is done for the betterment of the people. Just a long list of letter at the end of their names, sometimes even running out of the letters in the English alphabet.

Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 15 October 2012 05:09 AM

He is just another aimless fellow-traveller of Wimal Weerawansa thriving on conspiracy theories to fool the masses.

    senavi Monday, 15 October 2012 04:26 AM

despite eighty years of public investment in higher education. What have these educated done for the masses?

buffaloa citizen Monday, 15 October 2012 05:22 AM

Wrong, they are indeed fooling all the people of this country all the time. Simply because, we belong to the same moron culture as the minister and his masters. We get what we deserve.

If we have to even to develop nuclear weapons, we must go for it. Can you remember when the first countries got the gun and gun powder, how they ranscaked the entire world, conquoring, plunder and pillage and mass murder or genocide of entire populations of those inhabitants. If those indeginous people had guns then - White man have run for their money. And White man still begging at our feet. In that case they are still cornered into tiny Europe. What British did to - by spreading their Whitenty was the most brutal barbaric act to this planet ever witness in human civilization in 4.5 billion years!

    Bushel Monday, 15 October 2012 03:09 AM

Before nuclear let us clear inefficiencies of CEB and reduce the cost of a power generation to reduce our electricity bills

    Fusion Monday, 15 October 2012 03:06 AM

With all due respect Mr. Ranawaka, I don't thing the world nuclear elite care much about Sri Lankan "Nuclear Scientists". Plus, whoever SL born nuclear physicist probably has migrated to a country where his/her skills would be useful.

    UP Monday, 15 October 2012 03:18 AM

Only thing is, reduce budget allocation further to the education.,. Then there is no nuclear scientific in Sri Lanka . Then no threat.

    warElephant Monday, 15 October 2012 03:16 AM
