The United States today said that Sri Lanka has not initiated a full, credible, or independent investigation into longstanding allegations of human rights abuses in Sri Lanka, including sexual assault.

Speaking at the State Department daily press briefing, Patrick Ventrell, Acting Deputy Spokesperson said, “…to date, the Government of Sri Lanka has not initiated a full, credible, or independent investigation into longstanding allegations of human rights abuses in Sri Lanka, including sexual assault. So we’re reviewing this particular report, but you know where we’ve been in terms of human rights in Sri Lanka and our really deep concerns.”

In response to a question about UN Human Rights Report and also Human Rights Watch on Sri Lanka, the spokesman said, “So we’re reviewing this lengthy and extensive report. I understand we just got it a day or so ago. But we do note our strong concern about human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law in Sri Lanka.”

Before looking at others credibility, have done any credibility report on Hirishima/Nagasaki, invasion of Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya ? When the commander in Charge of Iraq war said they didn't find any MDW from Iraq, he has to die. still his death is a misery. No you asking about credibility.

There was no independent investigation and there will be no in future too. Because;
1. Who appoint the panel? Government (already the independent is in question)
2. Who is going to fund it? Government
3. Who is going to received the report? Government
4. Who is going to implement it? Government
5. Who is going to monitor it? Government

Considering their excellent track record on human rights abuse all over the world, the US is fully qualified to comment on this subject. But they are not qualified to judge anyone else until they clean out their backyard first!

We live in peace now. The most ungrateful people anywhere in the world are in this country. What they can't stick is someone from the South did it! If the Rs were from Colombo and belonged to the English speaking elite then there wouldn't have been an issue.
