The documents submitted to the Immigration and Emigration Department by former minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shasi were found to have been forged, the CID told Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya.

The CID said its investigations had revealed that Ms.Weerawansa alias Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage Shehani Udayakanthi alias Ranasinghe Randunu Mudiyanselage Sirsha Udayakanthi had obtained her normal passport by submitting a forged identity card.(Farook Thajudeen)

In the first principal , a women should not be deliberately targeted for an offence of such non criminal nature and not given the current undue publicity. If really required to punish her offence, her passport can be suspended for some years to match with the scale of the offence but without making deliberate " noises" . However, it is appropriate that the authorities would have checked her mental health condition and background reasons to push her to make such unauthorized alteration to her Birth certificate, which has no relevance to others. It is also interested to know impact to the GOSL, International Community and General Public of Sri lanka due to the " illegal act " done by this woman.

Forging state identification documents is a serious offence where the person is immediately jailed without bail. Remember Karuna alias Kokila Dushmantha Gunawardene in UK with original official diplomatic passport issued by Gotabaya and MOD where he was imdtly jailed and deported. Arriving in SL he was not investigated but promoted to SLFP general secretary and parliamentarian by MR.
