Two policemen of the Cinnamon Gardens Police were interdicted today over a security lapse at the opening ceremony of the refurbished racecourse mini pavilion on Saturday.

Police said a motorcycle passed through the road which was closed to the public alongside the racecourse, while Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa were on stage.

The guests were seated on the main stage which was set up in front of the mini pavilion, witnessing a dance performance at the time of the incident.

Police Headquarters said the officers who were on traffic duty failed to stop the motorcycle, therefore they were interdicted for their negligence. (Supun Dias)

so what ! this land belongs to all Sri Lankans, whether ride a motorcycle or drive a BMW, seems like the VIP's still live in fear.

    Nandagupta Monday, 22 October 2012 01:56 PM

Good that the officer got disciplined for his negligence of duty.

    Laws Monday, 22 October 2012 02:13 PM

Not, only these 2 police officers, but also the superior officers should be interdicted.

    JPUL Monday, 22 October 2012 03:11 PM

Poor show. Intedicting is the last punishment one can get. First of all there should be an inquiry(impartial) in to the incident and found falt only a suitable punishment should do.

    Mason Monday, 22 October 2012 03:31 PM

Security was provided to MPs to counter the LTTE threat. Now that we have won the war why is security being continued ?

    Curious Monday, 22 October 2012 01:48 PM

The policemen should have been strictly warned rather than interdicted them.

    navi Tuesday, 23 October 2012 04:55 AM

Why the hell that road was closed for public, In my opinion this is what they call the freedom. So freedom for them and we have to keep out of these majestic family when they are on the road. What it the freedom they are talking about. We should be able to ride any whare in the country any road in the country as long as it does not consider as an ofence by the law.

War is over for more than three years. Why roads need to be closed. in UK MPs and ministers sometimes travel in bicycle without security. Only in Sri Lanka when roads need to be closed!!! When do these practices change in Sri Lanka and all are treated equal citizens?

    Johan S Monday, 22 October 2012 10:14 AM

Why should they go to jail? They didn't intend to harm anyone. They made an honest mistake .. maybe they missed a road sign .. if there was one.

Neva glnth ban choon Monday, 22 October 2012 10:18 AM

The 2 policemen are so lucky.

In other countries they would have been skinned alive.

    JP Monday, 22 October 2012 10:20 AM

In the past LTTE used these kind of lapses to their advantage and killed so many top people in the country. Thank God , it is no more.
