Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara has tendered his resignation to be in effect from May 27,  stating that he could not continue to work in his capacity based on his principles.

“Based on my principles and considering the current set up at SEC, I was compelled to take the decision to resign,” he told Daily Mirror online.
Earlier, Chairman of the SEC Thilak Karunarathne resigned from his post, alleging that ‘there was pressure from very powerful people’. ( Dilina Kulathunga)

Why can't these people spell out exactly what the issues are rather than saying their inability to work according to their principles or conscience? Why no backbone to stand up and be counted?

It is heartening to note that there are still people of this calibre who do not wish to compromise their principles for financial and material benefits, although we have glaring examples of even "scholars" toing the government line and demeaning themselves in public keeping shoulder to shoulder with uneducated thugs.
