We are only engaged in money spending tamashas and only showing off. Earlier it was the Indian Award Festival, and now this. Wonder what will be next.

Ask the IMF to lend more money for more celebrations ....
Monday, 14 June 2010 07:05 AM
For whom is this victory day celebrations?. Brave soldiers or the general public who sacrified for the war. This is not to pay our gratitude for brave soldiers instead to get their salute for cardboard heros(politicians) spending millions of public funds. What a shame Mr.President?.

What the country need is a celbration of unity and not a celebration of Sinhala domination of Tamils
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:54 AM
Why can't they amalgamate this with the Independence day and have only one celebration.
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:53 AM
You are right, this 'sinhala only' is the root cause of the problem. In the long run we are mainly suffering 'cos we dont 'understand' each other, but 'misunderstand' due to the communication barrier!
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:50 AM
What about SWRD? History tells it ALL....
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:47 AM
I think is high time all these celebrations are stopped and we think about improving the quality of life of Sri Lankan people. It is a crime and a sin to deceive these poor innocent people
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:45 AM
So then SWRD wasnt a pig head when he introduced "sinhala only" policy many years ago?
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:06 AM
Don't you worry - another tamasha will come to keep people talking to get their minds off serious issues like changing constitution to suit government. These are new spin tactics. Very few understand the seriousness.
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:01 AM
So many celebrations.. millions spent... these millions could be used to help the displaced! Who is paying for these Tamashas... US!!! THE TAX PAYERS!
Monday, 14 June 2010 06:01 AM
Any anniversary or a birthday can not be celebrated after one month.
Monday, 14 June 2010 05:58 AM
"v" day stands for "vile day". we should mourn for all the people who lost their life. help the displaced families with our money.
Monday, 14 June 2010 05:58 AM
The cause of the 'racial conflict' as you call it, was one pig headed megolomaniac called Velupillai Prabhakaran. He started the war and fortunately he was killed one year ago. Why cant you get a life and let your innocent brethren live life in peace. We must celebrate his demise which led to the liberation of Sri Lanka.
Monday, 14 June 2010 05:37 AM
This event has become extremely stale news.
Monday, 14 June 2010 03:16 AM
Hmmm, It is going to close the road for peace also. It is meaningless to celebrate V day without resolving the causes of racial conflict, which started the war. goverment is celebrating our relations death day.
Monday, 14 June 2010 05:31 AM
Well said hash... We Sri Lankans are very good at spending money for celebrations than extending a hand to the needy.. with the money they are going to spend here, they can at least provide 100 livelihood opportunities to those Hero's and their families who sacrificed their time and life to bring peace for us !
God Save mother lanka

Hooray hooray its a holi holi holiday on 18th ??
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:52 AM
well this was to be held on may 19th but due to bad weather conditions they postponed it. now what is the point in having the occasion after the exact date has passed. so it's better to hold it next year.
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:41 AM
Without CELEBRATING - the government should COMMEMORATE, For commemoration you dont need rehearsals - like what we have on Poppy Day (November 11th)
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:41 AM
Couldn't this rehearsal be held on Saturday or Sunday - without inconveniencing office workers. Didnt they practise earlier - so rehearsals could have been held on Saturday or Sunday.
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:21 AM
I don't see a need to celebrate this every year as it was already celebrated in 2009. Just a waste of public money. Instead this money can be channelled to the real development of the country, at least to repair some roads.
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:20 AM
Who suffered due to last months raining and floods? poor people. Then who will suffer this month due to ...........?
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:13 AM
Should have helped the poor and the families of army who scarifies their life in war, with the money their going to burn for the V-day
Monday, 14 June 2010 04:05 AM
was he sleeping yesterday? what if this was communicated at least yesterday so we wouldn't have been stuck near galle face for ages. and the worse scenario is there is no policeman to direct vehicles coming from the Sir Mohamed Macan Marker Mawatha to malay street, but 4 traffic policemen + 10 odd military police officers at galle face round-about to avoid vehicles entering the galle face.
Monday, 14 June 2010 03:59 AM
oh no.. not again!
Monday, 14 June 2010 03:57 AM
North Suffering, South Suffering. Only Ministers ENJOYING.
Monday, 14 June 2010 03:54 AM
