The death sentenced given to Sri Lankan maid Rizana Nafeek has been suspended by the Saudi King after a clemency request was sent by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister of foreign Employment and Welfare Dilan Perera said.

The Minister added that the Saudi King was unable to pardon Rizana Nafeek under Shari law and that a pardon could only be done by the parents of the infant who died after blood money was paid.

He added that the government was willing to pay blood money for Rizana’s pardon. (KB/YP)

    It took time because
1)The King has to follow the laws as well.
    2) The parents will feel for the lost child and takes time to heal and show mercy.
    3) Its God who changes the heart of a person.
    4) How soon prayers are answered by God depends on how good the person who is asking from God

A death sentence can be suspended but not the sentencing of the General. This is five star democracy of Sri Lanka.
