Main opposition UNP called on the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake to ensure a free and fair local government election so that he could retire from his post with dignity.

UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya told at a news conference today that the polls chief has the opportunity of erasing black marks in the past if a free and fair election is held this time. (YP)

    citizen1 Thursday, 27 January 2011 04:15 PM

Good to know that people recognize the word! However the actuality is that the qualities you mentioned are long gone from our society almost to the point of extinction.

    citizen1 Thursday, 27 January 2011 04:14 PM

The choice is dignity or life. Hard choice for a man wth a family.

The Judge Thursday, 27 January 2011 02:28 PM

    dxb Thursday, 27 January 2011 10:28 AM

It's not commissioners fault. Only the incapability of UNP including Ranil. Nothing else.

    SF Thursday, 27 January 2011 07:11 AM

DIGNITY! Good to hear the word been used. I thought this word was long removed from our vocabulery along with certain other words such as integrity, loyalty, modesty, honour etc

    Labby Thursday, 27 January 2011 07:08 AM

What could Dayananda Dissanayake do when he's threatened at gunpoint ?

    Gamarala Thursday, 27 January 2011 07:10 AM

He does not know the meaning of Dignity after President election

    Anver Thursday, 27 January 2011 07:05 AM

He should not retire with trembling voice and shaking hands in his final election speech! Wish him well.

    Ryan Thursday, 27 January 2011 07:06 AM

UNP talking dignity of people, what a joke, they were throwing stones at judges houses and dragging Profs along the road, where was the concern for dignity then? Best this is to prevent UNP coming to power in order to protect dignity of people.

Tharaka Chanaka Thursday, 27 January 2011 07:00 AM

Have we ever had a free and fair election for this guy to be proud about in the first place?

    Shanil Thursday, 27 January 2011 06:58 AM

Ironic coming from the UNP don't you think.....

    Sue Thursday, 27 January 2011 06:54 AM

Mr. Dayananda lost his dignity and his self respect at the conclusion of the last Presidential election. The UNP leader RW on the other hand does not seem to have any dignity at all and still hanving on when everyone wants him out.

    channa Thursday, 27 January 2011 06:48 AM

It time to you and RW to Retire.....How many elections has the UNP lost?

    nagulendran Thursday, 27 January 2011 06:46 AM

When are you going to Retire?

    Amarapala Thursday, 27 January 2011 06:42 AM

Same goes to your leader, right?
