Reshuffle in Police top brass

More than 30 senior police officials including Senior DIGs, DIGs, SSPs and SPs have been transferred with immediate effect, Police Headquarters announced today.

The statement said these transfers took place due to the requirement of the police service.

Accordingly, new DIGs have been appointed to the Presidential Security Division (PSD), Ministerial Security Division (MSD), Prime Minister Security Division (PMSD) and Diplomatic Security Division (DSD).

Senior DIG Asoka Wijetilake formerly in charge of the Western Province had been transferred to the Sabaragamuwa Province with senior DIG Anura Senanayake now in charge of the Western Province, while senior DIG S.K. Shankara of the Sabaragamuwa Province had been transferred to the Uva Province.

The following senior police officers have been appointed to the following positions with immediate effect. SSP S. Gunasenan – Jaffna police division, SSP K. Pathmadeva - Crime Division, Police Headquarters, SSP V. Indran - Police Supervision Division, SSP J.C. Proctor-Administrative Director, Police Headquarters, SSP M.  Fernando-Director of Planning and Statistics, SSP W. Ganegama - Kandy Police Division, SSP B. Pathmasiri - Ratnapura Police Division, SSP S. Siriwardena - Director of Welfare, SSP B. Mathurata - Kelaniya Police Division, SSP Deshabandu Tennakoon - Matara Police Division, SSP T. Ganesanadan - Director of Organised Crime and Anti Vice division, SSP N.S. Perera - Director of Diplomatic Security Division (DSD), SP W. Komasaru -Gampaha police division, SP P. De Silva-Nugegdoa Police Division, SP K.B. Mahagedara - Nuwara Eliya Police Division, SP U. Karunanayake - Kuliyapitiya Police Division, SP M. Mahendra-Kilinochchi Police Division, SP A. Perera - Mankulam Police Division, SP Ranjith Kodithuwakku-Director of Police Discipline and Conduct and SP H.B. Siriwardena  -Director of Praja Police and Examinations.

The appointments have been given in order to strengthen the police divisions and the directorates. Currently the entire department is under a massive restructuring process to enhance its efficiency and the move closer to the public.

Recently 22 DIG’s were also appointed and before that more than 30 Chief Inspectors, Inspectors and Sub Inspectors were transferred to police stations island-wide. (Supun Dias)
