The Elections Department has begun the process of adding those persons who returned from Rehabilitation Centers to their respective villages to the Electoral list. Assistant Elections Commissioner Nishantha Diripriya Herath told the Daily Mirror that the Grama Niladari from each area began collecting information for this endeavor.
Once the initial data for the list is compiled those who qualify to be added in the electoral list would be added to a second list “the B-list”. This second list would be compiled and showcased for a period of four weeks sometime within the three months November to January. These persons would thereafter be added to an updated 2009 electoral list. (DS)

Also need to consider the complaint made with regard to the deliberate removal of names of UNP supporters in the Colombo North and other electorates as well. Right to vote cannot be deprived through sinister motives and everyone knows the hidden agenda behind this. It is the duty of the Elections Commissioner to issue a direction to the respective official to rectify the error early as possible.

The Department of Elections, at present is doing a commendable task. They have started a project to computerise Electoral Registers.
I think they should implement a mechanism to cast the vote of Sri Lankan residents in foreign countries through Embassies, High Commissions & Consulates. This process is being operational in countries like Australia & some other.
