The Matara police today arrested a man who had kidnapped a 24 year old girl, sexually abused her and then married her without her consent.

The suspect had met the victim through a mutual friend and then had promised to find employment for her using the name of SLFP Hambantota Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa saying that he was a supporter of the MP.

The suspect had informed the girl to come to Akuressa to get a letter from the MP on Tuesday and had taken her to Ambalanthota and sexually abused her. Thereafter he threatened the victim and married her. The girl had escaped from the suspect and had lodged a complaint with the police.

During investigations the police revealed that the suspect was previously married and had no connection to MP Namal Rajapaksa.

The girl has been admitted to the Matara hospital for medical inquiries. The suspect is to be produced before the Matara magistrate tomorrow.
