Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao will visit Sri Lanka this weekend in a bid to boost bilateral ties and push for an early resettlement of conflict- displaced Tamil civilians, Indian Foreign Ministry sources have said.

Rao, who will arrive in Colombo on Saturday on a three-day visit, will hold bilateral discussions with top Lankan officials and also call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.

She is also expected to inaugurate an India-funded educational institution in Peradeniya on Sunday.

The issue of the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) is expected to figure in the discussions between Rao and the Lankan leaders, sources said.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 04:06 AM

Keep India aside but I like this Lady. When she was in SL she was everywhere and was having a very friendly co-ordination with the society of Sri Lanka.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 06:15 AM

welcom Mrs. Rao! V the students of Peradeniya Colege of Education eagerly waiting for your arrival. you are the real friend of Sri Lanka

    Friday, 05 March 2010 08:24 AM

Well, if SL is India's lucrative market, then they should be very interested in its development. The richer Sri Lanka is the more it will import from India.... However, India is not an export giant as China is and its economy is driven mainly by domestic demand. So this point is no very valid overall.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 08:34 AM

    We welcom you.....................

    Friday, 05 March 2010 03:16 AM

the indian foreign secretary MS RAO srilanka government has made use the indian three heads of the indian war on crime. the president now with china not with MR Singh

    Friday, 05 March 2010 09:59 AM

INDIA IS NOT A FRIEND INDEED BUT A FRIEND IN HER NEED!!!

    Friday, 05 March 2010 10:17 AM

We should establish close cooperation with India and not play ball with China and Pakistan.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 10:36 AM

You can't love Rao- it is her husband's name- if not you are a gay!
I welcome her visit to the paradise island, sans terror 'tigers', again!

    Friday, 05 March 2010 10:44 AM

Indians never had any good intentions toward Sri Lanka. I am totally surprised that many Sri Lankans are gullible fools and are simple minded.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 01:53 PM

without eliminating all type of discriminations and injustice to indian citizens, how can we believe that India stands for justice in Sri Lanka. All these drama is a tick to fool people.

    Saturday, 06 March 2010 03:54 AM

Enjoy the kos atta and kawun; sorry no hydrabad byryani this visit.

    Saturday, 06 March 2010 04:52 AM

    Saturday, 06 March 2010 06:03 AM

    ms.rao from RAW?

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 07:16 PM

I wonder why Rao is coming to our beloved country? India is so worried about our President's close ties with China. Rao's visit is because of this. Rao doesn't really care about the Tamils or IDPs.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 02:12 PM

Hope president will make use of this important meeting to the best of our country. Sri Lanka should have a very good relationship with India who is not only our neibour but also the giant of democracy in Asia. For our problems, let it be any nature,India is the first country which Sri Lanka can approach and expect solutions. Therefore,Sri Lanka should consider India as a friend indeed and a friend in need.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 02:54 PM

all these visits are just India"s Regional political gimmicks.no progress can be expected in IDP's or a sustainable solution to the bleeding ethnic issue.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 03:29 PM

There are reasonable Lankans still living in the country. Good comment Kumara

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 04:23 PM

What do you want now Ms. Rao? India is not a friend of Sri Lanka any way.Only the poonac eating voter buffalos think to the contrary. In fact we think you are a manupulator and an enemy of LANKA

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 04:43 PM

    Srilanka is holding "Kotiwaligaya"(Tiger`sTail)

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 05:43 PM

India must be genuine , They are not to be trusted at this point of time. The have brought political unrest to this country.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 05:45 PM

Madam Rao, please intervene and get General Sarath
Fonseka out of detention.. This should be your priority along with the IDP's. You have to take care of this before you leave.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 07:14 PM

Sri Lanka is one of India's lucrative markets. They will never let us develop, as it would put them in jeopardy. E.g. The 'Sethusamuthram project,' is to hit our shipping income!

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 01:49 PM

    I love Rao

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 08:16 PM

An utter waste of time. India is 'all talk & do nothing'!

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 09:04 PM

The people must understand we cannot prosper, in isolation. We need our South Asian neighbours! Do not be led astray by Wimal 'sahodaraya' and others who will say one thing today, and something else tomorrow.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 11:28 PM

We should have a stornger bond with India, and also, with other friendly countries. Welcome Mrs. Rao !

    Friday, 05 March 2010 12:36 AM

Wimal was, is and will be against the west, Britain in specific and no one else. Did Indian attended GTF conference? No, so, Wimal would welcome India.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 01:21 AM

India should mind their own business.
first they should solve their own problems

    Friday, 05 March 2010 02:07 AM

She is very professional lady & better than Dixit.

    Friday, 05 March 2010 03:02 AM

As a Visitor Rao must be treated with Hospitality. Beyond that no Indian Dictates must be Tolerated.
