Kotte Mayor, Opp. Leader granted bail

Sri Jayawardenepura-Kotte Mayor Janaka Ranawaka and Municipal Council Opposition Leader Sugath Appuhami were released on bail when they were produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.

The Mayor and the Opposition Leader were arrested on Friday over assault charges. They were released on cash bail of Rs.10,000 with two sureties of Rs. 100,000 each.

Mr. Ranawake was arrested while being treated at the Kalubowila Hospital and Mr. Appuhami at the Colombo National Hospital. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

    Now at least, the voters in Sri Jayawardenapura must resolve to send educated men to the local authority. What are the educational qualifications of both the Mayor and the Leader of the Opposition?
