Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is to hold a special press briefing this morning over the crisis in the UNP following threats by some of his party members to sit in Parliament as Independent members.

I hope its a good bye message! enough is enough!

    haris Wednesday, 15 September 2010 03:07 AM

    Dear Ranil,
Please do not leave. As long as you are the UNP leader, MR will be our President. In fact this is the greatest service you have done to the country. Hold the fort for your uncle's sake!

    Ravishan Tuesday, 14 September 2010 08:11 AM

Ranil's usual trick of buying time

    rishan Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:29 AM

Good to nominate sajith as the leader of UNP without further delaying...

    JEM D Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:03 AM

As the leader of a party that has had many losses Ranil should have stepped down. However that being said the fault does not lie only on the leader but all those around him.

Essentially the members have acted irresponsibly washing dirty linen of the party and leaders in public. Further instead of sorting out the problems members have for personal gain making public statements which is against party ethics, and morality.

Therefore all are responsible for the present situation of the party, and Ranil will be the winner retaining his party leadership. ultimately the so called rebels will either have to leave the party or stay back with their tails between their legs.

Sri Lankans need no explanation from Ranil. He has already ruined the democratic life of the present generation. At least for the sake of the next generation, he should resign now and hand over the party to able young leaders. He will never realize nor accept his mistakes. Sri Lankans are loosing their democratic rights day by day due to Ranil's blunders and his unwillingness to hand over the party to others. He is clinging on even after being rejected by the people over and over for the past two decades. Oh my God, isn't there a limit for one's selfishness?

    Yehiya-Doha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:02 AM

Say bye to UNP, that is we need.

mata nikang hithuna Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:39 AM

There is nothing to explain...we understand very well. Please step down. Your time is over. You are out now. We need young blood.

    N.B.M.Arachchi Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:34 AM

    What left to be explained....?

    suwimal Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:27 AM

The greatest service he can render to his party at this juncture is to exit gracefully. I am not happy to say this because Ranil is a gentleman to the core, but he is not the man for the hour.

    mayu Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:15 AM

Please do resign and save the country......

probono politoc Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:09 AM

Poor Ranil has become NATO - No Action Talk Only

    Wasantha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:09 AM

What press briefing?. Conduct the meeting as requested by party stalwarts and show that you have a backbone. Ranil you cannot fool all of them all the time. Now you must face the reality as a Real Leader.

tom cruse jr Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:07 AM

RW has been a waste of time - we voted for him from Gampaha and in Colombo now it's time for him to call it a day, he has run out of ideas and is playing second fiddle to MR regime.
GO FOR HEAVEN SAKE GO - WE LOST FAITH IN YOU,
    DIE HARD UNPER'S.

    HEAMU Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:05 AM

RW you do not have to give any interview to the press. You are a great entertainer. Please put an advertisement on "PLAYING RABAN" . for weddings. Surely you will get a very good response.

    Serenity Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:51 AM

He probably should say he's going to support the Government or going home!

    Sera Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:17 AM

Ranil, your time is up. Please give way to a dynamic leadership in the UNP. I am from Colombo District and cast my preference for you. But now I am convinced that you are the most selfish person in Sri Lanka. Only thinking how you could have a good life and not about the UNP and the Sri Lankan people. Pl go away from Sri Lanka and live in EU or USA.

    ultimate Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:05 AM

is he going to explain about his resignation from leadership ??

    DXB Tuesday, 14 September 2010 04:14 AM

No minor quality of a leader , otherwise he would have pulled many goverment side MPs against 18th amendment instead of sending from his side , there are many dissidents in goverment , knowing Ranil's disability they keep silent.

    Handipora Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:35 AM

It will be another exercise of pouring water on ducks.

    bash Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:21 AM

SILLY, he must first discuss with the persons concerned who threatened to sit independently then go for press briefing if required... with this style, no wonder this guy is unattractive to the grass root level supporters in the UNP and loosing so much of elections

Dushantha Kurera Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:18 AM

Breaking News !!! Ranil was about to Resign and He comes out with another Trick to extend his already expired shelf life !!!........ All UNP's wants Presidents A18 out but cannot do anything with the UNP Con... Stitution !!! .... Eliwena Jameta hondaa Hondaa Sellam !!!!

    Ran Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:10 AM
