A man who had staged a protest on top of a tall metal pole structure near the Viharamaha devi park since this morning was removed by the fire brigade and taken to hospital a short while ago.

A fire engine lift was taken to the location and he was brought down calmly, put into an ambulance and driven away with his helmet still on. He was taken down after Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra assured him that some documents which he had would be given to President Mahinda Rajapakse.

The man had earlier refused to divulge the actual motive for his protest or step down until President Rajapakse or any other top government official meets him.

Incidentally, the metal structure on which he was protesting had a massive cut-out of President Rajapaksa during the presidential elections. The structure was removed by the authorities after the protest came to an end. (Daily Mirror online)

The President had already set a precedent by serving a glass of water for Wimal who was pretending to be fasting. So obviously this man expected the same treatment since after all sovereignity lies with the voting citizens!

Is there any lemonpuff in his portion?

    Dushantha Wednesday, 15 September 2010 04:37 AM

At least a good thing happened because of this Man. The long standing (since the election time) pole post has been brought down. Otherwise it would have been there until it falls on someone's head.

This kind of Acts must be denounced and impose the maximum punishment as any others to learn a lesson. This kinds of jokes must end, if encouraged then what is the purpose of Courts?. Frame all for attempt suicide, defamation to country image, obstructiom to traffics, obstruction to public services and cost of hiring Fire brigdate equipment etc.

    Lokubandara Tuesday, 14 September 2010 10:51 PM
