Police said today they had prevented a group of people from proceeding to Colombo to hand over a petition about their loved ones who had disappeared. They said the police took this decision for the purpose of maintaining law and order in the area.
Police spokesman Budhdhika Siriwardena said the Police received reports about several buses being attacked.
Civil Monitoring Commission Convener Mano Ganesan said the protesters had called off their planned visit to Colombo.
Mr. Ganesan said that thousands of relatives of missing personswere camped at the Vavuniya Urban Council Grounds guarded by riot police armed with water canons.(H.F)
