The Lanka private bus Operators Association says it will withdraw from service from Tuesday if the Southern Transport Authority fails to withdraw the new registration system of private buses.

According to the president of the association Gemunu Wijeratna the new system results in an exorbitant increase in the registration fees. (S.A.J)

The private bus operators dont offer a "service". How dare they call it a service. If anyone here uses a private bus you will understand what sort of a mafia it is. The passengers are the least of they're concerns...

    we are the victims.

Agreed. AC buses don't have AC. Normal buses delay as much as possible during the first half of the travel, and then runs as fast as possible to match the time towards the end of the journey, neglecting all the passenger needs and safety. One bus collects people to fill 5 to 6 buses. Neither driver nor conductor is polite in speech (this is more applicable to CTB). The traffic regulations are openly ignored. Better to confiscate private bus business, but lots of improvements in demand with CTB.

Tell these Bus-terrorists to go hang themselves and stengthen the SLTB. I want to applaud the people who are behind the improvement of the SLTB. I try to travel SLTB when ever I can and I must say that all the busees that I have travelled in so far have been manned by young, well mannered conductors and careful drivers - what a change!! Thank you!!

Yes Navin. The authorities also should stop these hooligans from driving under the influence of Ganja. the 163 route conductors AND drivers consume Ganja and alcohol ALMOST daily at a house situated the bottom of Station Road Dehiwela in the mid morning time or early afternoon. I have seen it with my own eyes and have reported it to the authorities... but who cares as long as the palms are well oiled!!

Can passengers strike private buses if they increase fares?

    IQBAL Thursday, 22 July 2010 07:57 AM

How about Increasing the services of CTB??

dear transport minister, this is an opportunity for you to overcome the private bus havoc. cancel their license and hand the private transportation to the private sector. im sure they will provide a better service at a better rate.
there are enough and more people to pay a premium and use public transportation, but you cant even imagine of traveling in a current (so called) luxury bus. its time to take a move. teach them a lesson. its now or never
