Prison attack; Top level inquiry

A top level inquiry has been launched into yesterday’s incident at the Anuradhapura prison, where one prisoner was killed and another 25 were injured. A team comprising the  Prisons commissioner and a Prisons Superintendent has been appointed to conduct the inquiry. A senior prison official was also appointed as the in-charge of the Prison with effect from today, informed sources said.

Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera and Prison Commissioner General Major General V.R.de Silva this morning visited the prison and held a series of discussions with the officials and prisoners. Accordingly, the situation was now under control and calm by this morning, after taking several steps with regard to the well being of the prisoners.
