President Mahinda Rajapaksa telephoned the Sri Lanka national women's cricket team Captain S. Siriwardane yesterday and congratulated the team on its historic win which qualified them for the super six rounds in the Women's World Cup tournament, the Government Information Department said.

I think it is unfair to condemn a congratulatory phone call. DM readers, even if anti-government or anti-MR, should raise their game if to appeal to general population.
However, is this really news? How many phone calls could MR be making in a day? The real news would be, for example, him telephoning someone who may have wronged to apologies and correct the mistake (I can think of, for example, the 43rd CJ Dr S.B.).
