The notorious under world gangster M .N. Naufer alias Potta Naufer who is sentenced to death for the killing of High Court Judge Sarath Ambepitiya was assaulted at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court by members of a rival party in a case, this morning.

Naufer was assaulted by the prisoners who were in the lock up in Court at Colombo Magistrate Court when he was escorted into the court room.

He was assaulted with the handcuffs by the prisoners and the missiles thrown by the attackers missed Naufer who was brought in to the court room to give evidence for the prosecution in a case in which the attackers were alleged to have threatened to kill Naufer.

The attackers shouted that they are in remand because of Naufer and would kill or harm him.

Naufer in return shouted that he was escorted there by the prison officers to give evidence and they are there to protect him. Consequently the case was postponed. (Daily Mirror online)
