Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka has decided to continue in service and not resign as earlier planned. Speaking to reporters a short while ago the polls Chief said he reached the decision following appeals by the opposition and his staff.

The Commissioner also said that he will investigate UNP claims that some 64 ballot papers marked in favor of the opposition candidate were found dumped in Anuradhapura and appropriate action if the allegations are true. The polls Chief rejected claims the election was rigged.

    EC, please stand for justice.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 03:43 PM

Dear Elections Commissioner, if I were you, I would have gone to Supreme Court and said that "I want to resign unless the 17th amendment is fully implemented, as without that I cannot do my job"!!! It is still not too late!!!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 03:45 PM

When he thinks about previledges and perks associated with the post of Election Commissioner he will never quite or retier until his death.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 05:58 PM

This guy is always like this. Just after an election he announces his move to resign. But, thereafter, he stays on.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:42 PM

    A great 'supporting actor'!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:54 PM

    Shameless!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 08:31 PM

You should have a 'backbone' - it seems that you are too timid for this job! Most unfair by us, the innocent citizens!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 09:44 PM

Bay bay mata yanda - bay bay mata yanda - maghe lokka bani yanda bay ...

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 09:46 PM

Actual fact is that he is not sleeping, but the losers have gone deaf!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 10:16 PM

Why do you want to continue?

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 10:17 PM

The people are going to suffer!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 03:26 PM

Yes he said that he was inside his room for 36 hours.too

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 09:06 AM

He has been paid or under threat. Shameless. The General elections will be like the Presidential elections if he is the EC.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:04 AM

Sir, Please quit. The government is exploiting your weakness and that is endangering the democracy of the country. Majority of the people do not want another election under your command.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:29 AM

Better quit now and let somebody help do a good job and save the country.we need a strong person for this job who could handle any situation..

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:44 AM

The losers will naturally will not like you as you stood firm. They are smarting from a drubbing and seems incable of understanding why they are been rejected by the majority of the country.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:08 PM

Spineless is too good a word to describe this so-called Public Servant .

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 02:29 PM

    Humbug of the decade !
"Election was free and far" Ha Ha Ho , Ha Ha Ho"
    Rs ?? million

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 05:12 PM

    Very true

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 05:13 PM

Or the "Duke of Kelaniya" in the present monarchy

    Friday, 05 February 2010 06:45 AM

We don't want to have an another election like the presidentail election concluded recently .Please quit .

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:12 AM

    Stay on and Rock on!!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:13 AM

Excellent job done under a lot of stress by the EC. Whatever the outcome, action should also be taken if the allegations are untrue, so that these sore bunch of losers will not be successful in pulling down the country along with themselves.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:15 AM

Very strange move considering EC pleaded to retire in 2005 after election. He begged again to retire after this election. But now he wants to continue after 5 years of pleading to retire?

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:22 AM

Why not let someone strong enough to withstand threats and oppose malpractices take over? You didn't do what you should have done until the presidential election, on the day of the election and after wards. If you had a backbone, you would have simply called off this fraudulent election well before the 26th, saying you didn't have suitable grounds to play the match.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:26 AM

DO U FIND ANYONE IN SRI LANKA WHO KEEPS UP TO THEIR WORD ??? OR IS THIS ALSO PRESSURE FROM THE MR CAMP ??.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:29 AM

Are you sleeping from the 26th or is it your literacy level speaking?

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:31 AM

Govt needs his help to win few more elections. That is why he continues...........

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:37 AM

Why not Mervyn Silva. He is the honet person to replace the present EC.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:41 AM

This is not the full statement by EC .. Bias reporting. He also said there were no malpratices as well

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:11 AM

It is not the government who wants E.C to continue but the
    opposition.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 06:08 AM

MAY THE TRIPLE GEM PROTECT HIM AND MAY GOD BLESS HIM !

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:13 AM

Mr. Dissanayake, who told you to continue your service. I am sure its Mahinda. Don't lie to me uncle.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:14 AM

You are right Chandika, other than Mervyn no-one is suitable for this post. This may be MR's next choice.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:14 AM

He will resign after the General Elections having assisted the goons to exploit his weaknesses and win again!!!!

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:16 AM

No wonder he is asked to stay, he is the worst EC we ever had, must be waiting for a posting as a High Commissioner

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:37 AM

Why is this public servant who has been appealing to be released from his job for the last several years being inveigled into staying on, especially by the Opposition? He looks so harassed at the best of times that the stress of this job will prove to be too much, especially if he's being asked to stay on until the General Election which is a much more complicated task. Is he that indispensable? Is Sri Lanka so lacking in competent administrative officers?

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:41 AM

He'll end up at Angoda !.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:44 AM

I dont know why you all are not talking about Hudson Samarasinghe. Hudda is the most suitable person for this position.

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 07:49 AM

Its better you go home. You destroyed our hopes and future.
    You can't escape from God

    Wednesday, 03 February 2010 03:23 PM

We do not want any more elections from you go home and sleep well.every time you make excuses. It is not to have this type of elections and stop wasting our money.
