Police have begun forcefully removing the protestors who are staging a fast unto death outside the UN office in Colombo preventing the staff from coming out of the premises.

A group of protestors had forced themselves inside the UN premises but were removed by the police.

Meanwhile several UN staff have begun leaving the premises amidst police protection.

Government Minister Wimal Weerawansa who had left the scene earlier had returned and got onto the stage which remained erected at the side of the UN office. (Daily Mirror online)

    Perera Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:52 AM

I am only asking a question from GOSL,
    1. How do these people protest in a high securty zone?
    2. Can these people protest like animal?
    3. What action does GOSL and police take action aginst these culprits?

God Bless our country from these stupid ministers & so called Sri Lankan. These guys can go overseas like dogs for other matters.

    sc Tuesday, 06 July 2010 12:18 PM

G -Wansa has just created another diplomatic disaster to the country. Its truly a "Wonder of Asia"

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:37 AM

Many wise words are spoken in jest, but they don’t compare with the number of stupid words spoken in earnest.

    Upul Tuesday, 06 July 2010 12:34 PM

Looks like he has the blessing from the top

    Josh Tuesday, 06 July 2010 12:37 PM

    let me guess.....

why did the "patriot" leave the scene when he was actually supposed to "lead" the protest???

    Yapa Tuesday, 06 July 2010 12:40 PM

why can"t the police put all these thugs into a bus and drop at Mattakkuliya and demolish the stage

Isuru Fdo Tuesday, 06 July 2010 12:42 PM

One thing we have to appreciate. Wimal did what he said. Most of the poeple in this country cant do that.

    Kadira Tuesday, 06 July 2010 01:58 PM

90% of the people writing in this forum must have been stuck inside the UN office today?

Nuwan shantha Tuesday, 06 July 2010 02:36 PM

I can ask One question 1) How much paid for this ??????

dilo neXgen Tuesday, 06 July 2010 06:57 PM

IGP, where is 'your' BUS, which usually takes 'POOR' university students from the Ministry of Higher Education to Pettah? Give a 'LIFT' to these guys too!

    Mahesh Wednesday, 07 July 2010 07:57 AM

Shows the state of our country... so call leaders, shame on them.

    Ganga772 Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:25 AM

Wimal, be careful your wife and children won't get visa to go to Disneyland for next vacation

    bash Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:18 AM

Hey, wait a minute, what about those fast unto death people... or do these CARDBOARD HERO'S know nothing will happen for them due to the protection from this government.

    Ganga772 Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:18 AM

Nice drama. Everything is according to the script. If some university students gathered, this would have been a different story.

    RajasH Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:19 AM

why use the police. Bring on the military. half a million of them guarding destitute IDPS.

    desa Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:19 AM

All these JVP or ex JVP ministers can do is shout only. What work have they done towards development of the country?? Utter nonsence.

Smart Aleck Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:20 AM

That joker Wimal has even involved some little Samaneras in his foolish escapade. This shows the intellectual level of some of our piliticos.

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:20 AM

Thats not enough. Arrest and jail the main culprit who incited the people and took the lead in organising this protest.

    Thambi Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:22 AM

Why the Monks including kids are at the protests. Buddhism preaches peace and harmony. Are they practicing what they preach? What a SHAME!!! and shame to be a buddhist

Dr Kamal Naser Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:22 AM

This will not do any good to the country, except getting some extra votes for Wimal Weerawansa. Rather we would earn a name like Zimbabwe. Hope the economy would not go down to the level of Zimbabwe.

Rohan Perera Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:15 AM

Wimal W trying to become a cardboard hero. Stop playing to the gallery and act in a responsible manner.

    dilshan Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:26 AM

well done MR WIMAL next PM!!!!!!!!! nice show ....

    Mohottige Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:27 AM

these protesters are Behaving like criminals. If this happened to a Sri Lanka Embassy in the west it would have caused a wild outcry from GOSL. A shame to see even Buddhist "Monks" give support to this terrorist behaviour, even burning the effigy of UN general secretary. Thugs all of them!

    zainudeen Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:27 AM

It's funny how most activists are pacifists.

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:34 AM

A failure is a man who has blundered but is not capable of cashing in on the experience.

    Dheen Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:34 AM

WW is playing the role of Dr. Mervin. Too much noise will settle down fast.

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:36 AM

A lot of beautiful people are stupid. There’s a tremendous amount of idiots who look so good. It’s frightening

    Kcey Tuesday, 06 July 2010 11:37 AM
