A total of 2,891 police personnel had been promoted to various ranks by IGP Pujith Jayasundara following interviews, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said 410 women police officers were among those who were promoted.
Accordingly, 1,783 police Constables were promoted to the rank of Police Sergeants while 334 women police Constables were promoted as women police Sergeants.
A total of 553 police Sergeants had been promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police and 76 women police Sergeants were also promoted as Inspectors.
SP Gunasekera said 124 Police Constable drivers were promoted to the rank of Sergeant while 21 Sergeant drivers were promoted to the rank of Inspector.
He said the promotions had been made after informing the National Police Commission.(Darshana Sanjeewa)

I am happy too read that many policemen have been promoted. I like to see more Tamil policemen in the North in proportion to the Tamil population in the North.
