The police officer was attached to the Kottawa Expressway police unit and was on his way for duty in his car when the incident occurred.

Police said his car had been blocked by a group of men who arrived in a cab and assaulted him after dragging him out of the car. His car was also set on fire by them.

IGP is most respected officer in his service. politicians & politicized administration officers are playing the foul game. Police administration not under his administration.Good example is police spokesman.

    Prometheus Saturday, 31 May 2014 03:35 PM

At least its good to see a police officer issuing a charge sheet to a ruling party politico.

Do not believe false stories.Wait until the truth comes out from the police spokesman.

Don't be surprised if the victim later denies that he was attacked, just like the army officer (not) attacked by a politico's son a few years ago.

    Mason Sunday, 01 June 2014 01:41 PM

Good for the Police to learn lessons. After all they were overzelously serving the government politicians more than necessary.
Let it be known that a Politician is only concerned about his pound of flesh and nothing else.

the public should not allow this. the public should stone those who assaulted this police officer

    Seyed Saturday, 31 May 2014 12:39 PM

Pathetic reporting by DM. Afraid to mention the name of deputy minister. Similarly a news item above says a 'leading school in Kollupitiya' but DM would not name the school. Freedom of expression and modern journalism has developed every where in the world but Sri Lankan journalists are still stuck in 19th centuary.
