The Police headquarters have issued notice to all police Stations in the Eastern province to cancel all pending leave of the officers, DIG Trincomalee Ravindra Vaidyalankara said.

Accordingly the DIG's of the province were sent notices to this effect a short while ago. The notice comes as a result of the tense situation prevailing in the East of the country. There have been protests against the police in the east due to the "Grease devil" pandemic spreading around the Eastern region. However, the cancellation of leave doest not apply to emergency situations. (By Amadoru Amarajeewa)

The Grease Devil Pandemic in the EAST is very different to the similar scenario in the rest of the country, and has been created because of the unfair treatment by the state of not collecting the arms of the state sponsored political parties, whereas all others have had their arms collected creating an imbalance.

The state MUST enforce the rule of confiscating all the arms held by people in the EAST, who misuse it for all types of criminal activity.

Actually, all Policemen should have been given leave for some time, rather than cancelling leave.
