Police said the suspect who fled after shooting a Police officer in Kilinochchi was a former LTTE cadre who is suspected to have been involved in terrorist activities and several crimes against the state.

The suspect had shot a police Sub Inspector of the Terrorist Investigation Unit during a search operation to arrest him on Thursday in his house.

Kilinochchi police said the suspect was a temporary resident in a Killinochchi housing scheme built with the aid of Indian Government.

They said he had fled the area after the incident.

Several police and army teams have been deployed to conduct the search operation and apprehend the suspect who is still absconding. (Pix Wanni Romesh Madushanka)
