Vegetable mafia. Government must crack this mafia for the good well of our people

    prem Monday, 12 December 2011 06:25 AM

    Why is this change.

Patta Pal Monday, 12 December 2011 06:27 AM

What do you expect? they enact a regulation which they have tried for over a year to enforce, but should know it is impractical until some serious changes are made to the transport system.

It is only economical to transport in plastic crates if it is done by rail. Otherwise you need 3 lorries to transport in crates what one lorry can in the old way.

I am not one to say the earlier method is correct, I am only saying that when they make such a drastic change it takes about 4 years to implement. It changes the whole lifestyle of the food transport system. No one in government knows what the workers and transporters have to contend with

Like it or not, they have to follow this procedure, if our country is to develop.
The Ministry could order these plastic containers, and give it to the vendors, to be paid back in installments, if it is a financial issue to them.

    Patriot Monday, 12 December 2011 07:06 AM

This is the problem in Sri Lanka. We need to overcome these type of village level mentalities to progress.

    nikita Monday, 12 December 2011 07:48 AM

this is a another international conspiracy against the good government. we should unit and defeat this. All these vegetable sellers are foreign funded NGO fellows and we must protect our Plastic manufactures at any cost.

    A W Abdulkany Monday, 12 December 2011 08:25 AM

Instead of plastic containers, why don't the minister consider about some eco-friendly disposable baskets -

At least now learn a lesson, this is food you treat like garbage. Have some respect for the produce which feeds your family.
