Only Tamil people should live in peace? How about all Sri Lankans live in peace? Army is there to prevent return of terrorists to disrupt the peace in Sri Lanka.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:55 AM

Time has come to withdraw the forces around the SF. Why can't you do it?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:56 AM

Ordinary Tamils live in Sri lanka should not deceived by those lip servers living high life in foreign lands. You guys have to live here, find bread and butter here, and try your best. Majority rural Sinhalese are discriminated by all successive so called Sinhalese governments for the last 60 odd years. Remember they rose twice with arms and crushed by respective rulers very inhumanly. No government would allow upheavals these days, as they somehow get modern weapons and crush.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:59 AM

Mr.Kane! Would you have the same perception if the military came and took over your property over some years. It is easy to sit under the air con in Colombo and criticize by the facts that affected the ordinary peoples life in Jaffna.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 07:03 AM

Mr.Ananda! Do you know how many people got killed by SLA on their last thrush. Were you sleeping somewhere in the bush all along?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 07:50 AM

Good move, we should do it step by step, we have no other place in the world, unlike others who are supported by many countries, we should protect our own interest and not repeat the old mistakes. Many of our brothers and sisters were killed by suicide bombs, we are still in pain. Dear leaders, think it over a million times before you make one little move for the love of our country and its people.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 07:58 AM

    Well said SIR!

    Friday, 30 April 2010 08:44 AM

Those are only LTTE figures. If those types of masacres took place, why didn't US sattalites capture it. They were on alert 24 hrs those days. And also if so called number died, how long will take to bury, where did they bury and again why didn't US sattalites find it. If they got any information they would have make a big fuss.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 09:08 AM

when SF said this during elections he was labelled a "deshadrohiya"., you couldn't or you didnt want to tell this truth at that time. why now gota?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 09:13 AM

    seeing is believing

    Friday, 30 April 2010 09:24 AM

Gerald, withdrawing from "Private Properties" and "Confining to Barracks" is two vastly different things. According to Gota, the army will move out of only private properties, but will still maintain its presence in these areas by other means.
Hope you see the difference in what Gota has said and what SF said.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:54 AM

This is a timely decision to withdraw army from private properties and this would certainly pave way for the prosperity of our country which in return would make success story in agricultural sector from the north.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 09:30 AM

    Bravo,
do you know how many innocent civilians were killed by Tamil tiger suicide bombs and attacks on villages. how many soldiers were killed by tamil tigers? We certainly were not sleeping, thankfully all those killings have stopped now.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:09 AM

Why a statue of Gen Fonseka ? Then what about the other Commanders, Soldiers who laid down their Lives ?????
Gen Fonseka is up and about and kicking.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:17 AM

But the Buddhist monuments and Buddha Statues illegally erected by the military in those private and public places will remain forever !!??

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:19 AM

Where do you live..? in SL..? Did you ever have every street & every biggest buildings occupied by Military in your town with forces who speak only tamil??? how would you feel then ? well we all want to live in peace respecting other races as equal.. it's all in your hand.. Let the other person live in peace.. then you also can..

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:21 AM

US satellite will never revel such information publicly unless they are insisted by any legal body such as International Criminal Court. This has not happened in their territory, it happened beyond their borders.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:24 AM

    Ind..
Didn't you read the statement that USA released last year with every point mentioned clearly..? it confirmed very clearly about all the atrocities by SL forces and how many innocent people have been killed..

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:34 AM

    well said bravo!

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:51 AM

One of the very best pieces of news I've heard so far after a long time of listening to violence prone news. The real peace dawns in the second term of the Rajapakse's regime! I'm waiting for the day to see a demilitarized crime free nation! It may be very soon!

    Friday, 30 April 2010 10:22 PM

'Gradually' may mean days, weeks, months or until this regime leaves? Why not a proposed timeline, instead of indefinte deadlines like these?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 11:39 PM

Yes, civilians in Jafna have suffered a lot. Now it's time that they regain their peace.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:48 AM

Even Tamils should thank him for providing the neccessary leadership and assistance given to forces to eliminate LTTE so they can enjoy real PEACE without fear, ransom, dictatorship and brutal terrorism. How many Tamils have been killed by LTTE?. Any Pro-LTTEr knows this?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:30 AM

why don't you put up a statue of Great General Sarath Fonseka somewhere in the north just to show some gratitude? Do that first.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:38 AM

Good move let people move back to their homes.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:45 AM

So all these days the army were occupying private properties...

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:54 AM

Another bogus statement to apppease (to cheat) the international community! The govt needs to keep doing this time to time to run the bankrupt economy

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:20 AM

If this is a genuine statement it is most welcome. But if this is to show that the Govt is improving its attitude to obtain GSP+, its a shame to make such statements

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:33 AM

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:41 AM

We are with you Gota.SF can have his statue in Kanatte very soon !

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:43 AM

Good move if this is in actioned.. then we can welcome it. not only from private properties.. winthdraw from north east.. let the tamil people live in peace

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:43 AM

very good. must build a very big statue of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Jaffna town for liberating whole country from terrorism.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:44 AM

He is a brave man with a lot of courage and determination and also who loves Sri Lanka. Keep up the good work !

    Friday, 30 April 2010 04:17 AM

This is a good sign, I hope peace will prevail in Sri Lanka in years to come.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:52 AM

Enough of war memorials. What people of this country want today is not to enjoy memories of war, but the dividends real peace.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 05:54 AM

Where have you been Karthik all these days? Didn't you know there was a war against terrorism which evacuated residents inorder to ambush the military and the military had to occupy the evacuated private properties to liberate them from the terroristrs. Please do not look at every thing with a squint eye.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:03 AM

We know how much the EU USA are bankrupt based on their high levels of debt! You are outdated. Your white masters are gone now!

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:06 AM

Its a very good move, looks like the government is trying to get the tamil peoples heart,

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:15 AM

Normally statues are not done for living people. But, I feel your proposal is correct because there are some points to consider that the Great war hero is dead and who lives now is someone else.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:19 AM

Ananda S-who are you to speak on behalf of the tamils ???

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:23 AM

Tamils experienced brutality from two sources. One was defeated in May 2009. The other source is alive and well.

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:24 AM

Well...I guess theres nothing much to take anymore. Suck them dry and walk out. Way to go patriots! Six more years a head of us or maybe twelve very soon, you never know but there's a lot growing up to do. The question is WILL WE? THEN WHEN?

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:35 AM

Take it as word of honor, and also consider compensation to those effected by this cause

    Friday, 30 April 2010 06:38 AM

yes all prices will go up and people will start cursing, so we will need statues of people who die of stavation soon.
