India will help create a conducive situation for the Sri Lankan army to withdraw from the island’s Northern Province as there can be peace only after demilitarisation, Union Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan said here on Thursday.

He told presspersons here that Sri Lanka went ahead with the conduct of the Northern Provincial Council election as scheduled only due to the Union government’s pressure.

“Now, the newly elected Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council, C.V. Wigneswaran, has said his first demand is that the Sri Lanka military should leave the area. The Indian government will create a situation for that. Then only peace will return there,” Mr. Vasan said.

He added that India will urge Sri Lanka to treat the Tamils there with dignity and equal rights.(The Hindu)

Who the hell is India to take any action against SL? Time they started solving their own internal issues instead of poking their filthy fingers where it doesn't concern them.

when the equall rights there, then the peace is there.it is same for any country.

    appuhami Friday, 27 September 2013 04:33 PM

If other chief ministers also request to withdraw ARMY from their provinces, we can send our ARMY to India to Secure Kashmeer. Is this the arguement Mr Vig make?????

    Saskia Friday, 27 September 2013 04:25 PM

If u ready to return to Orissa, then i am also ready to return to TN.

    Gamarala Friday, 27 September 2013 02:29 PM

Hey vasan, build more toilets for your people to poo without having to poo and pee on the railway lines.

    Gamarala Friday, 27 September 2013 02:27 PM

Hey first stop the rape of women and girls in your country - a rape every 20 minutes in India , per the latest reports, before sticking your dirty fingers in Sri Lanka. We could take care of our own. We are not a vassal state of India. Our army could be stationed in any part of our island. So just butt out.

    Yowsan Friday, 27 September 2013 02:01 PM

You should be named (K.G) Vasan. Your high dude.
The military is their to protect peace. We don't need another blood bath like we had in the past 30 years.
If your interested in the Sri Lankan Tamils, give them industry, give them jobs, give them money so that they can feed their families. Cut the bullshit, nobody buys your kind of talk now.

    kumarasiri Friday, 27 September 2013 01:48 PM

Sri lanka Army go from sri lanka? where? to India?

    Saman Friday, 27 September 2013 01:37 PM

    Saskia,
Why don't you return to your traditional homeland, Tamil Nadu.
    Problems solved!

    perera Friday, 27 September 2013 01:36 PM

what the hell has the frigging Indians got to do with peace or whatever in sri lanka.
do the idiot think they own us.
time they got their house in order before telling others how to do it

    Nodrog Friday, 27 September 2013 11:13 AM

The Army's presence is essential for the moment to curtail the budding terrorists activities. There is no Army presence in the South because we are free of terrorism here.

Suq Madique Friday, 27 September 2013 11:11 AM

Why should it be a thorn? Innocent people have nothing to fear. Its only the criminal elements and terrorist who fear the Army's presence.

    Nambiar Friday, 27 September 2013 08:28 AM

His party hasn't won a single seat on its own in Tamil Nadu.

Suq Madique Friday, 27 September 2013 11:07 AM

Maybe India should start with de-militarization of Kashmere? Just another bankrupt politician looking for publicity at our expense.

    ram Friday, 27 September 2013 10:31 AM

Mr Vasan as an SL Tamil we agree on you but still we need international sport to do this work out we are doing this its takes time slowly but steady .

    Ramesh Friday, 27 September 2013 10:29 AM

    Vasan is day dreaming.
We are backed by all asian and progressive countries in the world whereas India lost its clostest and true friend Sri Lanka due to the disgusting acts by some of the TN politicians like you.

Make your eelam in your own stinking T'nadu.

    BuffaloaCitizen Friday, 27 September 2013 10:28 AM

That is the worry about SLA, even in Haiti.

    Ramesh Friday, 27 September 2013 10:24 AM

    Saskia,
What hard measure are you talking about?
On account of the existence of the racist like you and some TN politicians, India is sadly digging her own grave by making all the neighbouring countries her enemies.
Instead, Sri Lanka will have to take a tough stance against India, it she continue to bow down to LTTE terrorists’ pressure.

Make your PEELAM in stinking TNadu.

Hemantha Gomes Friday, 27 September 2013 10:12 AM

Why are those people worried about military presence in North, special y Indian Government. this is our own military not from UN or from USA.

    UN-Justice Friday, 27 September 2013 10:03 AM

We Sri Lankans will enjoy real peace only after you South Indians stop grumbling about unwanted interferences into our peaceful nation.

    Giann Friday, 27 September 2013 09:36 AM

How stupid. Then peace in Kashmir, Punjab, Nagaland and other areas will dawn only after the Indian army and other central government forces are fully withdrawn from those states. Talk some sense please. The Sri Lankan army will be deployed island wide and noone can prevent or stop that.

    kondebendapucheena Friday, 27 September 2013 09:27 AM

SECURITY OF Srilanka non negotiable It is totally responsible of the Central government

    Prometheus Friday, 27 September 2013 08:39 AM

At least confine the Army to barracks or move the camps to sparsely populated areas in the north. The large military presence is indeed a major thorn in the peoples eyes.

    Saskia Friday, 27 September 2013 08:36 AM

    Thanks Vasan
But, what will do India if SL denies to demilitarize and denies to implement 13A fully (including land and police powers)?
Will India take any hard measures against SL?

    Vic Friday, 27 September 2013 08:35 AM

    Election fever?

lanka tamil Friday, 27 September 2013 08:35 AM

you want this to happen so you can one day take over the island? better think twice and create eelam in your own india
