The Provincial Council Members Consortium today requested the government to provide them with a pension scheme which they are lawfully entitled under the Constitution.

The Consortium which includes members from all political parties made this request at a special press conference held in Dambulla.

Members representing the UPFA, UNP, Tamil political parties, the SLMC  and the Communist party today stated that although under the constitution the Provincial Councilors were entailed to a pension scheme , they have not received anything for the last 22 years. (Kanchana Kumara)

Yes Nihal you are correct. They should atleast serve 20 years plus to claim pension rights.

Nihal Amarasekera Monday, 14 February 2011 04:08 AM

Do away with pensions for all political categories; unless one is elected to serve for 20 consecutive years. Sure the powers that be will take my advice; any bets?

For a "worthy cause" birds of all kinds of feathers get together

How about you work for your pay packet first then we can consider the pension? Soon even beggars will want one at this rate.

    PATRIOT Monday, 14 February 2011 03:47 AM

Bad enough they are a burden when in power they want to screw us when in their retirement too.
Pensions to all Politicians should be banned. They get ousted from posts since the PEOPLE dont want them. Then another lot of rotters take the seat and just imagine how many will draw pensions?
