Owner of orphanage remanded

An owner of an orphanage who had allegedly sexually harassed four underage girls who were living in the orphanage was remanded till August 29 by a Colombo Court today.

Police had begun investigations into the incident after receiving several complaints about this orphanage located in the Ja-Ela area. Accordingly, the suspect Rodney Perera a resident of Ragama, Kandana was arrested and produced in Court by police and charged that the suspect had committed this offence over a long period of time.

Police maintained that if the suspect was enlarged on bail, he would interfere with witnesses. The police further submitted in Court that they were conducting further investigations into the incident and statements had been recorded from other officials in the orphanage.

Having considering the submissions, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded till August 29. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Sirs, if he is proven to be committed such crime, please give him maximum punishment. 5 to 10 years will be nothing for such crime. A person managing an orphanage misbehaves with orphans? what a cruel person he must be?

I saw the person who may be waight more than 200kg .
Greedy layers backing up him ignoring their own daughters.
Great lady appared from orphanage done great job.
We salute you madom.
Sorry daughter & son, who were crying outside the court. ( May be their fauther was arrested).
The court should cater all daughters in equal manner.
We must takecare all children specially who are helpless.
