prohibiting sale of alcohol serves no purpose.it is the resposibility of drivers not to drink and drive. end of.if they caught the pusishment should be a ban and a hike of insurance as in most countries.no politician should be allowed to intervenve to get these potential killer off as does happen now. if it happens the politician also should face severe punishment. then again justice of the jungle can happen sometimes.

    Superguy Wednesday, 15 April 2015 05:51 PM

not necessary, atleast arresting ppl will teach them a lesson not to drink and drive. so less accidents

Sonali De Silva Wednesday, 15 April 2015 05:44 PM

And how do they or the govt. get about stopping this. By catching 600 persons under the influence whenever they feel like? Is this an eyewash or a joke?

Yes according figures only 74 other than Mcs and 3Whs which included bus drivers and motorists. So may be motorists and bus drivers are a good lot or Police bad guys by letting them off for other obvious reasons.

    Fair N Square Wednesday, 15 April 2015 09:31 AM

MOST times 3 wheelers are HIRED by the public for the transportation needs.. Like how Bus drivers, lorry drivers and car drivers are arrested the 3 wheel n even 2 wheel drivers n riders should be arrested and their license revoked for minimum a year..IF these idiots are drunk they should be at home sleeping and not risking the lives of innocent passengers. Make law that drivers/riders who are caught driving under the influence of Alcohol are taken off the streets..lives are way too precious to be lost.. Some bread winners get killed, who takes responsibility?DRIVING IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A LUXURY...

Desmond Jeromme Wednesday, 15 April 2015 06:47 AM

Good job done - special thanks to our Police Department.

    Any VIPs caught?

    Dot Wednesday, 15 April 2015 05:52 AM

What is the limit of alcohol permitted on the road ? If it is Zero tolerance then the sale should be prohibited .or the people should be educated not to take that one glass to many .. Were all the people behind wheels in luxury cars all tested too ? More information helps .for it seems that over 500 drivers were at the lower end rather than the top end !

These 3 wheelers have become a real menace to this contry most of the drivers are drunkpl try to follow the western country rules.one cannot even hear a horn tooting. via DM Android App

Please give credit to Police for doing the right thing by all of us to keep other road users safe. Show no mercy on these drivers.

    Manel Wednesday, 15 April 2015 02:40 AM

Govt. coffers are getting filled in 2 ways. First the duty on liquor and then the fine on errant drivers. Peolpe are gaining. Ha ha!!!

de silva Tuesday, 14 April 2015 11:39 PM

Will the Police take them to courts.I doubt very much. This is only a show. The offenders should be punished but fining 500 rupees will not do.Change law to Rs.10,000 minimum for traffic offence .Then you will see some difference.

    Magedaragamage Tuesday, 14 April 2015 09:17 PM

Law should be strictly applied on those drunken drivers and severely punished so that innocents will not be killed on roads.

    frequenzy Tuesday, 14 April 2015 09:01 PM

The same old song every year we hear. Police just want to collect fine rather than prevent accidents. via DM Android App

    Wacco Tuesday, 14 April 2015 08:26 PM

Police, were sleeping all these days, hence the high number of road deaths.

Alert man Tuesday, 14 April 2015 06:06 PM

Three wheel drivers drink without any scare. They carry passengers. So DIG Sir give them the maximum punishment. . Save srilankan lives. ...

    Dilip Tuesday, 14 April 2015 05:51 PM

Can you guys start arresting the sharks. Not just arrests but Confiscate properties, disregard their pensions, strip off their future parliament membership / participations. The public wealth should not be their party grounds.
