Over 12 notorious underworld criminals wanted for crimes including extortion and murder have fled the country and in some instances have even sought political asylum overseas, police intelligence sources told Daily Mirror online.

According to sources among those who have managed to evade arrest are Kudu Lal, Rajabdeen, Bhaiya and Diga Faizer. Kudu Lal was well known for his connections to a Deputy Minister but has now reportedly sought asylum in London on the basis that he is under threat in Sri Lanka.

Intelligence sources claimed that the notorious criminals who have fled the country are now in India, Dubai and England adding that it has now become difficult for the Sri Lankan authorities to nab these culprits.

With the government cracking down on underworld activities in post war Sri Lanka some criminals who fled the country have urged political asylum by providing false information, Intelligence sources added. (Daily Mirror online)

I thought we had co-operation from the Interpol. If we need to nab them it is easy to inform the Interpol with the relevent information and get them arrested and extradited. Kudu Lal was boarded to a plane none other than our Vermin of Kelaniya.

So, simply capture them as same as KP was taken.. Perhaps with the help of Interpol.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:26 AM

Most of the LTTE terrorists have already got asylum in other countries. 12 criminals is nothing compared to them

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:37 AM

Joke, joke and all jokes, who let them go and with whose blessings????

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:40 AM

Reminds me of the concerns the Australians are having over the deportation of suspected tigers. Just how did they allow the tigers enter their country in the first place? Whome are they trying to fool!

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:45 AM

Yes Rohan, and free to start their own mafia too in those countries.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:50 AM

may be with government support ?

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:52 AM

Does this make sense? If the police know all the specific details, why don't they get the Interpol's assistance to have these guys extradited to Sri Lanka?

    Friday, 21 May 2010 04:53 AM

Dont underestimate our intelligence service, if the police or government want to really arrest them, they can easily use KP arrest tactice!

    Friday, 21 May 2010 05:32 AM

When KP left the island, he would not have been a "wanted underworld criminal". So even our immigration wouldn't have noticed. But not these well known criminals...

    Friday, 21 May 2010 03:50 AM

Briton is a place for our intelligent children to go and study in their prestigious universities and not a place for our criminals. The British Government has recently banned student visa for Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis and Nepalese but not for genuine Sri Lankan students. So our criminals should not go their and spoil our children’s opportunities. The British Government also should looked into this matter very seriously and deport back all suspected criminals.

Three Cheers to the British High Commission Visa Section on their ability to chose the best citizens for visas !

    Friday, 21 May 2010 05:49 AM

Top criminals? didn't know there was a ranking system for this.....

    Friday, 21 May 2010 05:56 AM

Why did Police wait until they flee. This is their general rule.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 05:58 AM

In that case, all the leaders are directly or indirectly involved in some criminal. Who will be left???

    Friday, 21 May 2010 06:15 AM

Crooks and terrorists get visas very easily when we apply we have to go through hell and earth back...!!!

    Friday, 21 May 2010 06:24 AM

It's a difficult task for a person to obtain a visa to Uk.Once an application by an officer of the forign department was rejected. How come a person of this nature pass all these barriers and obtain the visa? Not only that to apply for a asylum they have to prove their innocent record and not the criminal record.Who is going to support ?

    Friday, 21 May 2010 06:57 AM

Criuminals have every facility, guns, vehicles, political patronage and now passage to overseas if caught.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 10:27 AM

For higher studies and further training? ;-)

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 11:08 PM

Ha.. ha.. ha.. ! The police department cracks some good jokes these days!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 07:16 PM

Underworld gangsters - direct competitors to our politicians.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:25 PM

Has the 'deputy minister' also fled?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:46 PM

But, the 'biggest criminal' is now in parliament!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:04 PM

Why not inform Interpool, with names and photographs - or do they NOT want to catch these individuals?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:06 PM

I thought that the SL intelligence was strong enough to nab even LTTE leaders from European counties?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 10:00 PM

The government better clean-up their own house first!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 10:52 PM

So, criminals can get visa's from major countries like UK and Canada, much easier then the average non-criminal - with the help of political influence?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 11:06 PM

Time for their 'political godfathers' to also leave Sri Lanka!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 07:01 PM

This is hilarious news! Our 'clever' police intelligence sources could not nab any of them, while they were in Sri Lanka, but are now coming-up with a stupendous story. They seem to know NOW, exactly where they are, in a foreign country. It is most likely that it was the same 'intelligent' police who helped them get away.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 11:33 PM

No problem! We can lock-up all the heroes instead.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 12:04 AM

Thanks to 'GEMUNU,' they are in safe hands.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 02:01 AM

who took them to airport with full security backup????

    Friday, 21 May 2010 02:25 AM

start nabbing the biggest crook .. the guy who looks like a hippo

    Friday, 21 May 2010 02:34 AM

If Karuna amman can get VIP visa to UK why not these Kudu fellows?

    Friday, 21 May 2010 02:40 AM

Police want a foreign trip as well, like the politicians

    Friday, 21 May 2010 03:40 AM

Yes they willbe fleeing next, with all the money .

    Friday, 21 May 2010 03:47 AM
