The one way test run which was conducted on the Galle Road from Bambalapitiya to Colpetty and from Colpetty to Dickmans Road on Saturday was not as successful as expected, the police said.
During the test run vehicles coming from Colombo had to go through the Duplication Road to Dickmans road and then to the Galle Road. The test started at 12 noon and lasted till around 6pm.
It was initiated by the police to curb the heavy traffic on weekdays and on Saturdays in Colombo. But according to the police the roads were congested as usual. It was first told that the test run was held to look into the possibility of making a one way stretch from Dickmans road which connects the Galle road in Bambalapitiya up to Colpetty.
On the other hand it was tested to connect it to the Bambalapitiya-Colpetty highway which is being redeveloped now, the police said. (SD)
These are very stupid solutions for the traffic problems we are faced today. The best way to educate the motorist and pedestrians as to how to use the road. This has to be done at home, school, temple, church and at a very young age. This can be done and can be see very well in Singapore.

Colombo has not enough roads to introduce one way systems.

Yes, road discipline is very low in our country. We have to educate both motorist and pedestrians.

This is a temporary solution. We need underground or skytrains. Need to find a better mass transport system now for the future

You can make the whole country 1 way but nothing will change. Educate the road users and make sure rules are obeyed. See if you can test run that?

It was disastrous! What an inconvenience it created on Saturday... Such an unplanned initiative...
