The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka is visiting Saudi Arabia to meet officials regarding the abuse suffered by L.T Ariyawathie, sources told Daily Mirror online.
Ariyawathie, a domestic maid, had 24 nails and pins inserted into her body by her Saudi employer. She underwent a major three hour operation on Friday to remove some of the nails that had been inserted and is now recovering.
Ranawaka, is also scheduled to meet Sri Lankan workers in Saudi Arabia and discuss issues facing Sri Lankan maids. (Daily Mirror online)

Oh ... What a joke! "Baila Chakrawarthi" on tour!
izzy Monday, 30 August 2010 04:48 PM
It is manifestly clear that our Ambassador and staff are doing nothing! - Otherwise why would Kingsley Ranawaka have made this trip to Saudi Arabia, at the taxpayer's expense?
Regi Monday, 30 August 2010 03:53 PM
We are yet to get a public announcement of this from the Saudi government. They don’t care two hoots of our plight.
Podi Guru Monday, 30 August 2010 03:48 PM
*I think little will be accomplished during Ramadan.
*I rather think this is a matter for heads of state to deal with.

The team can take part in an Iftar party and happily get back. Knowing the inefficiency of our diplomats what more can we expect?
Fishy Monday, 30 August 2010 02:45 PM
There is an embassy in Colombo. President can summon the HC to take action. Why waste tax payers money or NE rehabilitation money on this.
Bakamoona Monday, 30 August 2010 02:06 PM
Gone to Saudi ? Nothing happens in Saudi during this holy month. Ranawaka will have have a good holiday there. ha ha.
UDAY Monday, 30 August 2010 02:01 PM
The ministers may me not read the Sri Lankan workers who reported incidents by lots of complaint letters, to the embassy is waste!!!!!!!
Pukay pala Monday, 30 August 2010 01:55 PM
Don't forget your shopping list.
kumara Monday, 30 August 2010 11:18 AM
Thats great! This man gets a jaunt to Saudi, all because of these nails in this poor woman's body!!
Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 30 August 2010 12:50 PM
He should insist on applying their own laws in this case so that the maid can inflict the same injuries on the perpetrator. Just like they say: "Eye for eye and Nail for Nail"
Ane theiyo Monday, 30 August 2010 12:38 PM
This is just an eye-wash. You bet there won't be anything useful by this trip; but waste of people's money.
Gunda Monday, 30 August 2010 12:27 PM
Well Said. There are a few others who deserv the same treatment.
az Monday, 30 August 2010 12:13 PM
The Saudis will tell him 'if u have a problem with us then stop sending maids here' & he will come back empty handed to SL after enjoying a free trip..
Wasantha Monday, 30 August 2010 12:10 PM
Do not make it a holiday trip at the expense of the tax payer.Try to do something useful for the benefit of the those who are working there.
G man Monday, 30 August 2010 12:07 PM

sltk2004 Monday, 30 August 2010 11:47 AM

Julian Monday, 30 August 2010 11:45 AM
Stop sending innocent people to these lawless countries , start building a nation that can stand on it own feet ! By the way where are those so called "Human right activists" ?
shanghi Monday, 30 August 2010 11:43 AM
What about the unknown cases. the maids who returned in coffins? what about them? We do not want more vulnerable people suffering this same fate.
Gayan Samarasekara Monday, 30 August 2010 11:27 AM
Please do something, rather than making it just a holiday tour.
Prasanna Monday, 30 August 2010 11:24 AM
