A government official was fined Rs. 10,000 by the Mount Lavinia additional Magistrate today for having mosquito breeding grounds at his residence in Ratmalana. The official is a Manager at the National Livestock Development Board.
It was reported yesterday that areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Dehiwala and Mt Lavinia are to be declared a Dengue Prone Zone.
The declaration became necessary to concentrate efforts to eradicate dengue following a steady increase in the number of persons infected with the disease in the area. (AW)

If he was above manager, preferably a secretary of a ministry, or above he would have got exonerated without fine.... :)

Every day hordes of men with spray equipment proceed from the Urban Councils to spray insecticide to avoid dengu. Unless the land owner offers them a bribe of a hundred rupees they do not spray and even then they spray more water than insecticide.
In the old days when malaria was brought under control, the system was for a group of sprayers with a supervisor to spray homes and gardens. We have to get back to that supervised system if dengu is to be controlled.
