Not all frogs can become politicians and any country takes a downturn when drug peddlers, cannabis growers and jesters become politicians, UNP Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha De Silva has said.

Commenting on Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana’s claim that a three-member family could live on Rs, 7,500 a month, Dr De Silva further said if anyone can survive on less than Rs.83 a day on minister’s calculations it is much lower than the extreme poverty line of one US dollars per day which is Rs. 128.

Dr. Silva added it is up to Minister Gunawardana to explain to the country how a Sri Lankan could live on Rs. 2,500 a month while footing the health, electricity, school fees and transport bills in addition to the ever increasing cost of food. (Courtesy Ada)

No matter what foolish statements have been made, on the day of election, these are the ministers get elected. Should we blame MPs or the people who voted for them?

    Sangar Tuesday, 03 April 2012 07:21 AM

We need some PhDs like you for our country....GoSL please make minimum education qualification for a Minister is at least with Masters and for MPs with Bachelors...Otherwise no way of developing our mother land...

So much for the economics of this minister, who, once upon a time, taught basic economics to AL students.

Leave alone the international publications of poverty, these guys don’t even read about what our own Census and Statistics Department publish. Does he know anything about food poverty line? This minister wants many Sri Lankans to be even below the food poverty line and nutritionally poor.

No wonder about the sorry state of the education/examination departments are in these days.

    Waas Tuesday, 03 April 2012 06:32 AM

Don't bother to respond to such statements Dr. Harsha.. I'm sure you have much more important things to do!

The war was won thanks to MR who is actually a racist. Lowering of taxes on Motor Vehicles and realising this country does not have enough roads and reversing the same is just a simple example of the way these amateurs work. Unfortunately, we do not have honest balanced minded leaders anymore.

Dr. Silva, please don't waste your and our time by arguing just s fool statement made by that man. If we drag behind it, we will also fall into the same fool category. This is not a political statement.
