Good idea. But please put dustbins around the city. People must have a place to throw the garbage.

    TW Friday, 20 August 2010 10:58 PM

Firstly, the local authorities should put into effect a good garbage disposal plan. Give every house a bin and have it collected weekly. Most suburburn houses don't have places to dispose their garbage, due to lack of space. Once disposal is effective, then you can impose penalties. Prorities are all mixed-up in SL - that's the main problem!

    srilankan Friday, 20 August 2010 02:41 PM

There should be maximum penalties for those who throw garbage... just like in Singapore.

    Bakamoona Friday, 20 August 2010 01:54 PM

Well done, keep it up. Ban spitting, too. Thanks a lot.

    Curious Friday, 20 August 2010 11:08 AM

Some fools will steel the dust bins

    Abay Friday, 20 August 2010 10:09 AM

Municipal garbage collecting lorry that is not in a good condition and overused, spills on road. Even today before my house the lorry littered rubbish. Who are we to arrest?

    roger Friday, 20 August 2010 10:02 AM

even my dog knows this is a wrong thing, he used to chase people who threw garbage near my house!

    Roshan Friday, 20 August 2010 09:56 AM

Very soon our country will be clean like Singapore. Good work.

    tharanga Friday, 20 August 2010 09:50 AM

Love this action!!! Take legal actions on these people.. even if it is a small paper arrest them!! we need to keep our country clean!!

    VIJITH Friday, 20 August 2010 09:43 AM

Excellent. Good work. Everybody should co-operate to keep clean SL

    DJx Friday, 20 August 2010 09:40 AM

change we need !keep up the good work !

True man Friday, 20 August 2010 09:33 AM

100 % true. This should have been done long time back. Hope this will continue...

    Sanath R Friday, 20 August 2010 09:02 AM

It is good, but it would be better if a proper garbage collection and disposable system is implemented, thereby the need to dump in this manner is eliminated.

    Ravi Friday, 20 August 2010 08:47 AM

What about people spitting on the road?

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 20 August 2010 05:04 AM

This is a much better for the idle Police force rather than engage in beating up opposition supporters.

    Tanya D Friday, 20 August 2010 08:31 AM

This government has got its priorities right... That why they come back to power.

Tm Abay Friday, 20 August 2010 08:13 AM

U can't have dustbin in every inch. Our ppl throw the litter elsewhere even when the dustbin is just 10ft away

Tm Abay Friday, 20 August 2010 08:12 AM

    Good move

    Manike Friday, 20 August 2010 08:07 AM

I am sure our country will be a very clean county very soon. Thank you for the correct action that has been taken against the wrong.

    Indika Friday, 20 August 2010 07:59 AM

Problem is most of people even when they see the dustbins, they don't want to go near there to put it. That should be changed.

    DHA Friday, 20 August 2010 07:48 AM

Indeed a good move its time people learned their manners....!!!

Gayan Samarasekara Friday, 20 August 2010 07:03 AM

Wealthy businessman should be a UNP supporter for sure. Sri Lanka police is not more brave than arresting an opposition politician.

    Dilan Friday, 20 August 2010 06:12 AM

How about they provide dustbins to put the dirt in instead?

Ruwan Perera Friday, 20 August 2010 06:10 AM

Hope the law is equal to all and enforced without disruption.Continuity is what matters and not a one off operation!

    karu Friday, 20 August 2010 06:01 AM

They should have done this long before. There are enough environmental laws, but not in action. That why we suffer with less development.

    Deepal Friday, 20 August 2010 05:59 AM

When are they starting this programme in Colombo? Is Colombo immune from this type of action or are the offenders too powerful?

    Chad Friday, 20 August 2010 05:11 AM

    Good work......................finally...!!!!!

    Charlie Friday, 20 August 2010 05:05 AM

    Excellent
