At present the Govt is encouraging and giving protection to the BBS, one day this same BBS will go against the Govt and that time it will be too late.

This is the result of playing politics with religion. Only a spark in the hands of a fool be enough to make billions worth of property to go up in smoke. That time the politicians instigated this will be protected. Only the poor Lankans will suffer.

This ugly trend of clergy, may it be Buddhist, Muslim or Christian, trying to make or amend laws of the country should come to an immediate stop. Time honoured method of making laws by legislation after going though normal parliamentary process is the hallmark of a democracy. If we don’t restore this soon and relegate the clergy to their mandated role of looking after the spiritual side of the public, not only the country will tumble toward anarchy but also we will be ridiculed and shunned in the international community. We are already getting there pretty fast!

Well done Mr Minister. Better late than never.
The last time the clergy organized a big gathering in Kandy in support of SF it was suddenly cancelled in the last minute for unknown reasons. Now another group of clergy is summoning another big gathering in Kandy. Will someone with a genuine interest raise the same concern as last time or could some mischief maker ignite something in the crowd to trigger mayhem and anarchy in this beautiful little country.
PRASANNAJIT Thursday, 14 March 2013 06:21 AM
You dumb politicians have taken law into your hands. So this is the outcome, lawlessness in the country.

If one sees racial tensions developing, clearly Govt must take action to prevent this.
But there r racially & religiously biased parties in the Govt.
Const must be secular. BUT our const says Budhism is State religion.
Why did over a million Tamils leave SL? because they r treated as 2nd clas citizens.
Muslims r genuine in their actions relating to Halal meat.
It is in their religion.
Hope the crucial meeting will appeal to all citizens to maintain Status Quo.
Muslims were always feeling they r being treated by Govt as well as Singala people as 2nd clas citizens.
Politicians must NOT EXPLOIT situation.

Bravo, Mr. Minister. For the first time a Minister of the Government has come out with what it looks a firm stand on this simmering issue. We trust and pray that your words will be concrete. Don't let another episode of 'a la Maharagama' to take place. Hooligans should be controlled for the future betterment of Mother Lanka.

Firstly there has to be a rule of law. There is no rule of law in Sri Lanka at present. What you say also applies at the UNHRC meeting in Geneva.
