Sports Minister Navin Dissanayake had made an open request to batting great Kumar Sangakkara to reconsider his retirement.

Sangakkara, 37, who has already bid adieu to limited-over cricket, is expected to hang up his gloves from Test cricket in August, ending a glittering career.

“I would request Kumar to come out of retirement to serve the game for one more year. You all know that Kumar and Mahela had constant issues with SLC and now that a new committee has taken over I request Kumar to reconsider his decision,” the Minister said.

Sangakkara is the second highest scorer in the ODI cricket 14,234 runs with 25 centuries and 53 half-centuries. He is the only Sri Lankan to amass over 12,000 runs in Test cricket.

Not only the minister, the whole country and the international cricket fans too want him play for another few years.World cup comes every four years, but we will never get another Sanga again.

We the citizens endorse the Ministers sincere request to you, dear Sanga.

The minister has used polite words in stating "Kumar and Mahela had issues with the previous committee". The entire universe knows that certain people in the previous committee went out of their way to harass the two legends, whilst the rest of the committee did nothing about it. These committee members should not be allowed to even step into SLC ever again. Though it is credible of the minister to have requested Saga to reconsider, the minister will do well to correct the following;a) Sanga will not consider the ministers request with any seriousness as long as a certain selector is still aroundb) Mahela should also be requested reconsider

The real issue here is lack of youngsters with international credentials are not coming through the existing system. The minister needs to scrutinize this urgently if we as a nation ever to be competitive again in the international arena. Even if Sanga wants to continue, the core issue will continue to haunt us.38 year old Dilshan still has to field in cover point sums up the situation unfortunately.

Sanga being the gentleman he is will not consider the request from the Minister, but will most certainly consider a request from his fans. I think a mass request on the face book is the way to go.

We want you to come back and serve the game!!! We love you Sanga!

    Cobra Thursday, 02 April 2015 08:12 AM

The minister has forgotten that Sanga is no politician!!!

    Razmi Thursday, 02 April 2015 08:53 AM

Dear Sanga, Please reconsider and play Test and ODI Cricket until you reach 40.

    srian Thursday, 02 April 2015 09:34 AM

Sanga made a logical and timely decision to quit.He would not be swayed by any request, ministerial or otherwise based on mere emotion. In any case, this committee is an interim one and once dissolved, the elections would be manipulated and the old guard will return. Then what?

I think Sanga along with Mahela could help to improve the sport in several ways. I too agree Nishantha should be left out of the committee.

Sanga will not change his mind...values, attitude and discipline is something you should nurture when you are child. He got it all from the best school of all... Dear minister Please make sure politics and sports are not mixed in the furure.
