New harbours to be 'Green Harbours': Minister

Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today that all the new harbours in the country will be built on the concept of ‘Green Habour.”

Addressing the media after the opening ceremony of second stage of Hambantota Fisheries habour, he said all harbours currently operating in the country will be reconstructed and new habours across the country will be built inlcuidng in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Commenting on the Hambantota Fisheries harbour, he said there had been six boat accidents reported at the harbour because of the accumulated sand at the harbour. "We will take measure s to ensure the safety of fishermen," he said.
