The maid from Matara who underwent a three hour operation yesterday to remove nails inserted in her body by her Saudi employer is recovering well in hospital today and has also begun to speak.
Hundreds of people had turned up at the hospital today to get a glimpse of the maid after her story had made headlines in the media. Her employers had inserted 24 nails and pins in her body and most of them were removed by surgeons yesterday.
Meanwhile the chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau Kingsley Ranawaka visited the Sri Lankan maid today and offered her a new house. Several government and opposition members also visited her today. (Daily Mirror online)

This story should be made known to everyone specially to the outside world. In Qatar it has become a talking point and many of my friends and colleagues of other nationalities inquired from me. This is inhumane and barbaric. Both Government and Opposition members should take up this matter to the highest level to ensure the culprits are punished while the poor victim is adequately compensated..

I am yet to see any comments coming from Sri Lankan Muslim organizations like SLMC or the Ulamas condemning this. Your silence is deafening!

Don't politicize this issue, judgment before trial is no good, let her go to Saudi and help participate in the investigations!
