Nadeesha, Manamendra in the fray; Feroza out

The main opposition UNP has included popular actress Nadeesha Hemamali in its list of candidates for the Matara District for the upcoming Southern Provincial Council Elections while Nawa Sihala Urumaya leader Sarath Manamendra was given the ticket from Colombo District. 
Nadeesha told the Daily Mirror that she signed the nomination papers and would contest from the Matara District. 
Mr. Manamendra also signed nomination papers today.
In addition former Sirasa FM channel head M. Marikar was also given the ticket from the Colombo District, The other candidates in Colombo included Marina Sahabdeen who is a sitting member of the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council.
Colombo Mayor A. H. M. Muzammil’s wife Feroza Muzzamil was however a surprise omission as it was widely speculated earlier that she would be contesting from the Colombo District. In addition the president of the Colombo Wholesale Traders Union M. Palaniyandi will also contest from the Colombo District. 
Former UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene’s son Dr. Kavinda Jayawardene is also contesting. (Yohan Perera)

    When the other party avoided humiliation of being labelled a bankrupt party, the UNP decided against the intelligent voters, how sad! What the UNP needs is a bunch of educated not a film crew to and win elections.
