National Freedom Front (NFF) parliamentarian Mohamad Muzamil filed bribery charges against Mohamad Myown Mustafa through his lawyers at the Bribery Commission late last night, an NFF spokesman told Daily Mirror online.

Muzamil had alleged last week that the opposition member had offered him money to garner his support at the Presidential Elections for General Sarath Fonseka.  Muzamil also gave a statement to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning.

Meanwhile the opposition also filed bribery charges against Muzamil at the Bribery Commission today.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:02 PM

What a pity. Wimal and Muzammil underestimated our sri Lankan's ability ,talent and intellegence. until they correct themselve no one can correct them. Mahruf

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:15 AM

Hi- It is very common to file these types of cases during the Election Times. Charges and Counter Charges, these politicians are taking the valuable time of the Courts. Some body will file defamatory cases. Value 1000 millions. Are they Rocket Scientists to ask such a huge sum of money? Some of them are O/L passed politicians.
Muzammil will definitely loose the case. The money has to come through the Bribery Commission- How do you know somebody return a loan taken from Muzammil? nihalg

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:05 AM

Paying/Receiving bribe is a crime. Payer unknown; payee quite clear. Bribery Commissioner, act fast.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:06 AM

I can't understand why UNPns dont like to believe this even it has been proved properly. Most of UNPns are people speaking politics without a clear reason.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:10 PM

They are not going any where but down from here. People will vote them out.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:06 AM

promise for good governance going down the drain. Nice to see the true nature of the opposition campaign before the election so that people can decide in time.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:11 PM

As a singhalese myself I am ashamed. Please won't someone own him?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:19 PM

Good move muza, would you like to share 300m with me if you dont mind.lot of poor people like to share your story.pls muz mail to me

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:11 AM

Never heard of him..until this case..

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:37 PM

why should SF buy Mahruf.. can these group of 9 ppl get some decent number of votes.. and dont forget that the count was 12 few days back. This is Mr Vimal's way of telling "help me, my party has lost in faith in me".. they are try to cover up the reality, which is that 12 has gone down to 9.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:16 AM

MP Musamil can earn more than 30Million in the government rather than crossing over.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:38 PM

    YES - it appears

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:17 AM

Do you Think this so called muzammil is worth a penny to be offered such a sum???? do you think this man would have refused such a sum?

how many votes did this man get and how many votes can he get for SF???

just a cheapside corrupted politician amoung the corrupted Government, who are in power for there well being,

this is a well planned drama,

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:18 AM

The govt and WW camp has run out of ideas to counteract charges of corruption and bribery - so they cook up these things. Last time they gave a ticket for a joker from California.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:42 PM

I would estimate that he is a worthless guy!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:20 AM

wait my dear! another 7 more days and you will get an unbiased independent bribery commission. Accepting a bribe also constitutes a crime. A criminal is going to CID and giving statements without any fear of being arrested. Did the police confiscate this money? the 3rd world mentality! The political culture of a certain country reflects the people's consciousness. we deserve each other.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:24 AM

Very Funny, Bribery commission open on Sundays, also till late night :) Very efficient Govt workers ! This is purely because, they got scared that opposition will file a case for taking a bribe and arrest the bugger . SL ppl are not foolish dear jokers :)))

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:55 PM

2010 Oscar award for good actor goes to Mr.Muzammil.. this kind of dramas are good in school level not in the political mr.Muz....pls get rid of political.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:27 AM

We can believe only if we could only see SF giving the money. Unclear videos cannot be believed.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 09:49 AM

Thank you Sir, not selling yourself.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 09:53 AM

    true

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:39 AM

    Dear All,

It is very clear from Video Mustafa and Ahamed given the money. The worse audio eveidence also released. Muzammil is not important here. They want to attack Wimal. That will cost more.

I am ashamed to see the comments that even if clear evidence is provided people refused to beleive. But without any substantiation people tend to beleive the government is corrupt.

    God save Sri Lanka

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:35 PM

Once the money is accepted (without the knowledge of the Bribery Commission) the deal is done! Therefore, he has already "sold" himself!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:45 AM

This is the first time audio and video of a bribary scandled was exposed to the public. Instead of attacking the man for exposing the scandle, why dont we objectively examine Gen (ret) Fonseka's credibility? It's impossible to believe he was not informed of the cross over 'windfall'. Unfortunately, the inexperienced General (ret) got trapped in the sting. He should blame his advisors and come clean. If not, the people will condemn him to the dustbin of history,.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:48 AM

We have never heard your voice in the parliment.Suddenly you have raised your voice against people. Do we have to listen to you? Sri Lankan people have seen many people like you in the past, and they are willing to see some idiots like you in the future too.History of Sri Lanka throw you guys into dustbin for sure.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:45 AM

    @ Roshan
    @INd

yes bribery commission is working for 24 hrs. you can logged a complaint at any time.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:47 AM

There should be some truth in it.SF camp is ready to get anyone irrespective of the polularity. We saw many during last few weeks. When one joins Govt. it's for money and if it is otherway around, no money only patriotism ... Hypocrisy.....

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:10 AM

So you sinhalayas living in Canada salute idiots like Weerawansa? huh. Better stay in Canada all your lives cos Sri Lanka will not tolerate people like you just as they don't tolerate empty vessels like Weerawansa.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:54 PM

In civilized countries, lying: is the most disgraceful act! In Sri Lanka, it is the national pastime!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:13 AM

Honestly you people don't know what you are talking about. Do you really think the opposition is that desperate to pay 30Million to a guy like "what his name Muzamil" who does not even have a vote bank of 3000? Come on man, get real!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:06 AM

There are two policies one is non violence other one is honesty with this two you will go to heaven

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:59 PM

Has this been confirmed, by the Bribery Commission?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:27 AM

We have woken up at last and everyone has their eyes open now. We don't need "kings" to take our country forward; those days are long gone. We know who delivered the results and almost sacrificed his life doing that while "kings" led luxury lives in their palaces and was doing elections all over the country. We are awake and we are thinking of our country and of a true patriot who can take the country forward. Not a cardboard hero and his gang of thieves who has ruined this country.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:30 AM

So you are ready to accept the audio and video evidence as truth and nothing but the truth. right? Are you also ready to accept the truth about the channel 4 video about our soldiers killing the LTTE point blank? the govt. says its a fraud; what do you think Sena? What's sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander isn't it?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:57 AM

Not a well planned Drama sister . It's Idiotic Drama.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:12 AM

To all those who try to defend daylight robbers-who got caught red handed- get real, stop slinging mud at the guy who exposed crooks! You lot got no idea of what ltte dispora's latest propaganda & boasting claims that we are hearing right now all over europe & americas. They seems confident that Ltte would be back in control after 26th.Therefore i urge all true sri lankans to back our only true Raja to take our country forward not backwards, which is the true intention of that bridesmaid Ranil & her cronies. Wake up all Sri Lankans-think of our country- trust the person who delivered the results, not those who promises the world to gain power & hellbent on destroy our wonderful country.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:13 AM

If this useless guy worth 30M

clould anyone guess how much will SB and Jonny must have been taken ????????????

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:18 AM

The popular thinking is that politicians are resorting to the practice of changing party loyalties influenced by monetary and other rewards. And also, the general criticism had been that bribery allegations related to such circumstances were being maliciously made by rival politicians without providing any tangible evidence. This is a case where the allegation is made supported by audio and video evidence. Thus, Muzzamil is behaving in a very exemplary and responsible manner. He deserves our admiration.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:22 AM

Does this mean that channel 4's video too is authentic?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:13 PM

DID MUZAMIL HANDOVER THE "30 MILLION," TO THE BRIBERY COMMISSION? IF NOT, HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED, FOR ACCEPTING THE BRIBE!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:28 PM

Come-on people, who are these politicians taking for a ride? Will anyone, with common sense, believe this Wimal-Muzammil caper?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:46 AM

Good news. We've another hero.He has no other alternative to come out from the charges against him.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:37 AM

Go ahead SIR... pls let the country know about the stupid 2nd mission of SF and his change for this country...

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 07:16 AM

This government has been playing around with too much money that they dont see Rs.30Mil as an outrageous price for a nobody to crossover.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:55 AM

These type of people are a shame to the Muslim community.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:56 AM

    hahaha good politics

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:56 AM

Why didn't he go to the Bribery Commission before taking the 'bribe'? Having taken the bribe himself without the presence of Bribery Commission Officials he is blatantly guilty of taking a bribe which is also an offense. His boss is also guilty, for publicly announcing the money would be used for the election campaign!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:56 AM

    GO NFF GO...

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:12 AM

good one guys money in a bag, camera on the spot and best of all bribary commision open for business. Where have they been all this time. Hope the poeple of SL are not guided by this crap and vote for for the best person to take this country forward.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:57 AM

Unfortunately for this muzzamil, a lot of people have distrust about Wimal who's character sounds a lot like the poem by Aesop ''the boy who cried wolf ''- Even when liars tell the truth, they are not believed.

And we get the feeling these charges does not appear to have any connection to Sarath Fonseka at all. And are going to loose air just like the son-in-law's arm's charges.
Makes one wonder How much Wimal was paid to leave the JVP!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:58 AM

This man Mohamad Muzamil is a liar. Who wants to pay 300m for this kind of idiots? Another stupid idea by Wimal veeravansha

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:04 AM

He is a real great person in our country.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:05 AM

    Good move weldone
We proud on you same time we shame with Mustafa as Muslim

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:25 AM

It doesn't matter whether Mr. Muzzamil is right or wrong accepting the bribe.
question is whether the allegation is true or false. So SF should concentrate on proving his innocence, not Mr. muzzamills guilt.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:26 AM

Nothing has been proved, there are only allegations. If I go on TV tomorrow and claim that you gave me a bribe, does that make it true?

The courts have to decide what the truth is.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:08 AM

    all till the 26th.....

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:29 AM

    Better than 'Sanveedee's " Work.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:30 AM

Are you living in this world or some other?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:38 AM

Why didnt Muzammil inform the bribery commission before accepting the money . If his intention waas genuine that is what he would have done. Then the bribery commission officers would have caught the culprits red handed. He also said that a norwegian official was involved. There cant be many officials at the norwegian embassy so why not have an identification parade & identify.
& even if he accepted the money & then gives ti to the bribery commission ( assuming ti is true )how do we know he did not keep at least some of the money. becos WW did say they were going to use it.

whole thing sounds like a media circus!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:10 AM

Did he get more money from MR.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:31 AM

Man you've got to be really desperate to 'Salute' a fellow such as him.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:14 AM

Pathetic eh! Wonder how low people will go to stay with power?

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 07:50 AM

General Fonseka has changed the people ahead,
    no more briberry corruption.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:15 AM

This bankrupt guy seems to have taken the advice of Mr Tisaa Attanayake

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:36 AM

    good one

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:54 AM

    Poor Cinema !.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:16 AM

oh,, another one!! May be it's just Muzammil being a scapegoat trying to carry out one of those tasks from the conspired itinerary to tarnish SF's reputation, some folks can't stand the progress of SF, SF all the way....!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:57 AM

Mr.Weerawansa should be nominated for an Oscar for producing this short film.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:00 PM

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:53 AM

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:21 AM

He should deposit the 30M that was received by him since he is not entitled to have it.??

    SLPF

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:21 AM

    Just another farce!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 12:28 AM

Yes! It's comman sense - along with the complaint to the B.C. handover the bag of money! Let the B.C. decide, where it should go to.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:40 AM

    spot on!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:41 AM

    Is Muzzamil worth so much...

never heard of his voice, but now hearing a lot

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:43 AM

A good strategy for 'nobody' to become 'somebody'

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:46 AM

if you guys have an iota of common sense just tink if this 30mn will be paid in notes like this???

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:30 PM

That is why all the big fish is at bay.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:50 AM

SF operation and democracy at work.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:58 AM

I actually saw the video, but the guy who gives the money bag looked very small & unclear

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:04 AM

Those days you didn't questioned the credibilty of Gen Fonseka right? Why now? We all know his credibility apart from you.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 09:21 AM

SF should bother because if people believes it it's going to affect him. Muzza is a nobody. But they have comeup with something concrete. So it's SF's responsibility to prove othervise.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:07 AM

It is a real Election Joke

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:19 PM

Good luck Muzzammil,We wish you all the best.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:11 AM

    WELL SAID MATE... TOTALLY AGREE..

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:12 AM

u meant to say home.. was it?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:13 AM

should have said shame on the whole sri lankan society..

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:37 PM

Looks like Mr cleaner is not starting so very clean, Who are they kidding, In Sri Lanka even dogs wag tails for money, Nice to see SF's integrity at practice.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:11 AM

Sorry friend - leave the religious tag out. Talk of him or others as people and not as muslim, sinhala, tamil etc. You don't talk of Mervyn Silva as a shame to the sinhala community, do you?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:40 PM

Why should SF bother. Should he waste his time. This what WW wants - to distract SF anf fool people like you.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:13 AM

    There are many questions?
    1. Why Mr.Muzamil did not go to Bribery Commission before collecting money?
    2. Is he (Mr.Muzamil) such a populer and valuable to the country and political?
    3. Why UNP not given thes money to poor people and collect more votes?
    4. Did Mr.Muzamil deel more than from Wimal?
    5. Now what is he going to do these bribe money?
    6. Are UNP so foolish to give such a money by notes?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:17 AM

No matter who did it. He did some thing good for the real democracy. Even this sort of things going to continued, SF also will not be able to rule.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:13 AM

No wonder why Europeans countries and LTTE suppoters support SF becos they are really angry with MR and not SF.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:18 AM

Shiraz, You are correct.. corrupt people never bother about their religion. they are greedy for money, power etc

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:22 AM

I BELIVE THIS, BUT WITH ONE CONDITION. if the amount is Rs 3000, then this is a real story., coz this man doesn't worth more than Rs 3000.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:17 PM

We respectfull request to authorities to investigate the matter and provide clear justification from courts. These guys are real jokers trying to insult.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:30 PM

What can a Muzammil who couldn get even a few votes from supporters do for SF? Is he worth Rs 300 Million. ? Has the NFF deposited the advance Rs 30Mn with Bribery Commission as evidence. ? If NFF uses the Rs 30Mn for any purpose for its own benefit tantamount to accepting the bribe? If we are to accept a mere video as real are we saying that the channel 4 video is also genuine?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:35 PM

Publics are not worried about accusations, who ever wins
a common man has to earn himself to survive,We need
a president who can bring prosperity for an average man
to live peacefully. These accusations are Poly-tricks

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:35 AM

Sapumal , the cost is not for Muzammil .. it is a passive value for Wimal

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:35 AM

I DON`T THINK ANY THING WILL CHANGE ,WITH THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY DECIDED WHOM TO VOTE.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:41 AM

Mr Muzzamil has done greate service to general public by exposing corrput politicians and political parities how they try to manipulate public openion by bribing elected leaders.
All others who crossed over to Fonseka side would have defeinetly accepted huge sum of money for this.
We, women in this country will use all our influence to defeat this cheap effort of UNP and Fonseka.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:33 PM

in this 21st century, which idiot gives 30 mil in cash?? i think mr. vimal forgot about that!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:35 PM

Complaints have now been lodged with the neccessary authorities which is the correct thing to do. Lets wait and see how the legal process works hereafter. It is the bribe reciever who has made the complaint. Its upto the alleged bribe giver now to prove that he has not given the bribe.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:53 AM

Frankly, a lot of money is moving. i sense Muzamil is a good guy. whatever the political view, good that you don't get yourself sold like other greedy, spineless MPs. all the best

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:56 AM

First find out who gave him money to say, and act as he did. Must be someone really really desperate. Wonder what else big mouth Weerawansa has up his sleeve

    Monday, 18 January 2010 03:49 PM

You guys think people believe these dramas organized by Vimal? Sorry. You will know what people believed in on the 26th.
