While claiming that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would definitely contest the upcoming general elections as a Prime Ministerial candidate, his spokesman Rohan Weliwita today said that Mr. Rajapaksa was yet to decide under which party he would contest.

He said that the former President was optimistic that he would be given nomination by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to contest under the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) or the People's Alliance (PA).

“The reports that President and SLFP Chairman Maithripala Sirisena had rejected nominations for Mr. Rajapaksa are not yet confirmed. MPs Susil Premejayantha and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa are still trying to get the nominations for Mr. Rajapaksa,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

MR should contest and deservs to be part of the country leadership. In my view, he is one of the few political leaders who considers "COUNTRY FIRST". He may have done mistakes (who did not? Who is not corrupt?), BUT he is the ONLY leader who delivered what Sri Lankans needed most; i.e. Elimination of LTTE.Others can talk about 5-star democracy, but what they do is following orders from INGOs and Other powerful countries who have their own agenda. They talk about human rights, BUT they DID NOT deliver the most important human right....i.e. Right To Live when the LTTE was sending car bombs to Colombo!!!!I hope most Sri Lankans will realize that MR was the one who protected their most basic human right.
